The Photographer: Ronald N. Tan
"Personal Project," explores the male body through a photographic series of sexy and edgy images analyzing themes of sexuality and class.
"The images are provocative, gentle, and exemplifying the trust equilibrium between model and myself"
All great photographers bring parts of themselves into their work. San Francisco based photographer Ronald N.Tan more than most, uses his images to express and speak to who he is, and more importantly who he is becoming.
It was only about 5 years ago that Ronald left the world of academics to dive head first into a world he previously had little connection with. Moving to the arts was not a choice for Ronald but more a calling he could not ignore. His art is more than his work, it is his life. An expression of who he is. His respect for those in front of his lens is clearly seen not only in the images he shares with others, but in the way he interacts with them. Tan is not just an artist but a poet. This combination creates a distinct rhythm to Ronald's work that creates emotions that remain with the viewer long after the image was viewed.
'My academic-centric upbringing and the conservative Burmese background is why 'Personal Project' was conceived'.
Tan began 'The Personal Project' in February of this year. 'The Personal Project' is not just a series, it is a statement. Tan created the project as a response to his upbringing, his past, his life before photography. His 'in your face' statement is bold and erotic and everything that was previously had to be suppressed.
You can see much more of the work of Ronald N.Tan, including more on 'The Personal Project' at his beautiful site HERE: and his blog HERE:
The Model: Samuel Garfield
Many beautiful models have taken part in Ronald's project, most recently model and actor Samuel Garfield. Ronald says Sam has never done these type of shoots before and that he was the first to capture his curious sexual side. Samuel looks right at home in front of Ronald's lens and I love the sense lightness and fun in some of the shots. Samuel has a great face, so expressive. Find out a bit more about Sam at his Myspace page HERE: or on Twitter HERE: Samuel is also starring in a new movie 'Delphinium' which you can find our more about HERE:

I have been wanting to do a post on actor, singer, dancer and model Jonathan D. Lovitz for some time now. His appearance last month in the Lonely Goatherd number from Broadway Bares Classics at Splash was reason enough not to wait any longer.
Jonathan is not only great looking, talented and known for his kindness, he also has one of the best grins I have ever seen. Jonathan has been working on the stage for over a decade. Besides his performances in Broadway Bares, Jonathan has been in productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Altar Boyz and The New Century.
You can check out more of Jonathan at his MM page HERE:
Thanks as always to DavidAsset for sharing his videos with FH!
