The first image I saw of model, actor and insta-blogger Troy Pes was the last shot I posted below. Troy looks amazing in his tight grey brief's and the light through the window had me thinking he was a ginger until I searched for more. Troy graciously shares many of his images, mostly shot by his friends and partner, on his Instagram and tumblr, The City of Troy. He is also great at answering questions from his many curious viewers.
'I was inspired to do the Morning Ritual series because I thought it might be interesting to capture those moments that people would not normally see—waking up, doing morning stretches, bathroom ablutions and getting dressed. And, seeing these beautiful guys, before they brush their hair or do anything else is also a treat.'
I have been following and enjoying the work of New York photographer Gruenholtz on Instagram for awhile now. I love the intimate settings he uses so beautifully uses in his imagery and how he captures his models within them. I had been been planning on getting in touch, but after seeing a photo he posted last month, I knew now was the time. The image, which stopped me in my tracks, was of the shot of sexy Santiago that I used as pic of the day. I loved the pose and the playful expression on Santiago's face. Although Santiago knew who was behind him in the bathroom, his expression of surprise looked like he wasn't exactly sure who it that was catching him naked in the shower. It is often difficult to capture naturally, the element of surprise in photographs. Gruenholtz's shot has the viewe feeling that they were the one gifted, with the sexy surprise of discovering Santiago in the shower.
'Personally, I think guys are most beautiful first thing in the morning. There’s a certain vulnerability that is expressed. And, I do shoot them early in the morning kinda documentary style. For the most part, I do not direct any poses although I do make some suggestions to ensure they are being properly lit in these natural light situations. Instead, I let them guide me through their morning routines. Some of them are quite theatrical—I recently did a project with 12 dancers and their morning routines contain some amazing stretches.'
I totally agree with Gruenholtz's words about men in the morning. It had me thinking back to a post I wrote several years ago about bathroom rituals. ((Executing A Vision) Sometimes the most routine activities, especially when done alone, can be incredibly erotic when viewed, captured and enjoyed by another. I remember catching, and writing about (Third Floor Window) watching a guy through a window, three floors up, standing in his underwear in front of the sink shaving. For him, it was a regular, even mundane and boring part of his day, for me, the experience had a totally different meaning. I love the way Gruenholtz turns they every day rituals into vibrantly erotic visuals.
I am clearly not the only one responding to Gruenholtz's Morning Ritual theme. He started and Instagram last March to showcase his images and just over a year later has over 100k followers. After starting in sports photography about ten years ago, the New York photographer found himself drifting more towards fine-work. Feeling the need to fine tune his skills, Gruenholtz got his Masters in photography from the School of Visual Arts which he describes as the best decision he ever made. 'It brought me to a whole new level. Sometimes you just don’t know what you don’t know.' It was during the time that he was finishing his Masters program that Gruenholtz decided to open his Instagram account and shares that after that, everything began to off. An agent, book deal, jobs, and most importantly, the models. Gruenholtz is hoping to release his first book this fall. Stay tuned!
'Santiago and I connected via Instagram. He lives in Colombia and was coming to NYC for a month. He sent me some of his photographs and asked me to photograph him. To be honest, I wasn’t sure about him because his build wasn’t as athletic as most of the models I work with. But there was no doubt he had a beautiful face. And, he turned out to be one of the best models I’ve ever worked with—amazingly creative, with an ability to transform himself with each set-up. I’m so grateful he contacted me.'
I'm not sure how many may have caught last months NHL draft picks, but if you did, or saw any of the coverage, I'm sure you all noticed Nico. I had seen and read about Swiss hockey player Nico Hischier before, especially all the buzz about his draft prospects. The 18 year old Nico, currently plays for the Halifax Mooseheads, after moving to Canada last year to better his professional prospects in the sport.
The 2017 draft pick for the New Jersey Devils came down to Hischier, and Canadian junior ice player Nolan Patrick, with Hischier being selected first overall. Hischier comes from a family of athletes and although he played his dad's game, football until 12 until switching to hockey. Hischier is a hottie for sure and I foresee a him getting a lot of attention in the future. Let's hope maybe a few naked pages in a future issue of the ESPN body issue.

I'm sure I am not the only one wanting to make a reservation at the Crowne Plaza after watching the television commercials featuring actor Jack Turner. Of course the Plaza doesn't include Jack with the room, but that doesn't mean he isn't very good for business. Jack is welcoming, friendly and adorably hot, a great combination to associate with a night away from home.
Some of you might recognize Jack from his appearances on film and on TV in projects including; The 10 Year Plan, My Summer Prince and Stitchers. Both an actor and musician, Jack studying Psychology at Oxford prior to moving to the US to work at Google in San Francisco in 2012. It was there he got the acting bug, and has been working in the business since. Jack's charm comes across on film and in images and I am guessing the right role to catapult him to stardom is waiting in the wings.
When I first saw the work of Fort Lauderdale photographer Anthony Timiraos it was his dramatic dark backdrops and beautiful lighting that first had me drawn to his images. Of course the focus of that light, the incredible models, and the creative poses Anthony captures, also played a role in my desire to see more of his work. I had the chance to share a few of Anthony's images earlier this month when I profiled model Frank Campisano, (I can, So I do) and working on that piece only increased my desire to feature more of Anthony's work.
I often call working on FH my 'creative escape'. Anthony used the same two words to describe his photography. Escapes tend to be more dramatic, more erotic, and more intense than the sometimes drudgery of consistency that our daily lives can often be. This why so many people, especially artists, create more colorful and compelling visuals when life's boundaries and restrictions are removed. For Anthony, this means having the ability to concentrate on his subject and explore options and angles without any creative limitations.
Having spent years as a certified public accountant in Hartford and Boston and a financial officer for a market research company in New York, creative escapism was a must. Anthony retired briefly, but soon found himself starting another venture, opening a 250 seat restaurant and catering company with his husband. After a few years at the restaurant, Anthony tried retiring again, this time, including a step many retiree's take, moving to Florida.
Even with the warmer weather and beaches, retirement was still not in the cards. Anthony continued to work, including serving as the chief executive officer and president of a foundation serving the LBGT community. Anthony's passion for photography began in college, but with the stress and hours required to maintain career, it was often difficult to find the time to shoot. Now, with a lighter schedule, and time to focus on his passion, you can literally feel the pulse and explosion of creative energy when Anthony is shooting, and able to focus solely on his subject and images.
A 'touch of drama' is exactly what Anthony had in mind when planning his shoot with the strikingly elegant and incredibly sexy Richard. 'Classical nude poses with personality and a touch of drama.' was the creative description Anthony e-mailed Richard a few days before their scheduled shoot.. Anthony says that Richard beautifully hit each of their target goals immediately with very little direction. Anthony also shares that Richard is an extremely talented singer, songwriter, actor and model and I love how pieces of his acting, and his music, the mandolin, were incorporated into the shoot.
'Photographing Richard was a great experience for me. Now living in New York City, Richard is an extremely talented singer, songwriter, actor and model. Introduced to me by a previous model, Initially, I was a bit surprised when he showed up at the studio with his hair in pig tales. He assured me that the pig tales were only a way to make his hair wavy for the shoot. As soon as the hair was loose, the personality came through. The expressions on his face were very genuine and dramatic – working with him was a photographer’s dream. He is truly a collaborator.'
Riverdale has never shied away from embracing the hottness factor of it's cast members. Some of the shows most recent promotional images however are awakening memories of promotional images from another group of hotties. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there more than a passing resemblance...
