'Panic is not easy to conquer or even manage. It can sometimes feel like a medieval punishment. But it doesn't have to be a life sentence.'
I've admired journalist Matt Gutman for awhile now. Although I've never really watched the ABC network's national news, I caught Matt on some talk shows last year. He was discussing is struggles with anxiety and panic disorders, and given I've also battled anxiety at times, enjoying hearing his story, and later reading his book.
Although I've turned off pretty much all cable and network news, I do enjoy catching my local news, especially in the evening. Because of the massive fires in California, I've seen a lot of Matt lately, as the local ABC channel I watch often carries his pieces from the national broadcast.
Matt has one of those on-air personalities that has you thinking he actually cares. Unlike many of the robot-like newscaster who read everything in a monotone manner, Matt has an ease and natural presence when on air, regardless of how tragic the story he's covering. Now, I'm not going back to watching cable, or national news, but will be looking for more of Matt's work on-line when I can.
