'It wasn't very nice, but the truth seldom was.'

Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. Although known for Horror, If you've read much of his work, you know Horror is just a part of his diverse body of work. My love of King's work inspired a Halloween themed series of posts back in 2021. In addition to spotlighting my favorite projects from King, I also took a dive into the scenes of male skin in his movies and television adaptations. (

Ben Barnes
One of my favorite of King's recent books is The Institute. I devoured the book a few summer's ago and was hoping it may make it's way to to the screen. Given the length of the book, I'm glad it's a television series. So many of King's books are shoved into 2hr feature films, not nearly enough time to do them justice.

The Institute introduces us to Luke Ellis, who parents were recently murdered. He wakes up at The Institute in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. Outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids. who got there the same way Luke did
Joe FreemanThe TV adaptation stars Mary-Louise Parker and Ben Barnes, one of my favorite actors. Newcomer Joe Freeman takes on the starring role of Luke. The series was filmed last summer in Nova Scotia and is set to begin airing with two episodes July 13th on MGM+.

Although there was some nudity in the book, mostly scenes of Luke being stripped for experiments during his time at the Institute, I'm guessing it won't, nor should, make the TV series. Although Freeman is now 19, he would have been 18 at the time of filming. He also looks much younger, closer to 12, the age Luke was when he entered The Institute.
