The Bottom Line

Not cold enough yet to pull out the coats and sweaters, but I have been wearing my hoodies a lot more this past week.

The Movie Star

Many of you know I've mostly stopped doing regular posts when a celebrity dies.  There have been so many celebrity deaths the last few years, if I noted them all, the site would be mostly obituaries.  Instead, I note them at the end of the year.  I had to make an exception however for Robert Redford.

When I was a kid, I knew his name, I knew his face, but didn't really know his work.  One of Hollywood's last real movie stars, he was was one of the world's most well known male sex symbols for decades. I saw a few of his film son VHS when I was teenager, but mostly his more forgettable films from the 80's and 90's.  It wasn't until TCM that I really got know Redford's skill as an actor and his face and blond hair that lit up the screen.

I have a few favorite Redford films including The Candidate, The Last Days of Conor and The Way We Were.  My favorite project of Redford's though was Ordinary People, his directorial debut.  I remember seeing the film on VHS, and again on DVD, and being blown away by the performances and the power of the story.  The scene in the backyard with Mary Tyler Moore and Timothy Hutton, (where they discuss the barking dog) haunted me for some reason.  That was Redford's skill at pulling the power from even very small moments.

I knew about Redford's philanthropy and his championing of independent films and environmental issues.  I wasn't really aware however, until reading some of his obits, he was also a huge supporter of the LBGTQ community,.  Redford played a gay role early in his career, (Inside Daisy Clover) and also championed same sex marriage and equality saying it is un-American to discriminate against gay people.  R.I.P Mr. Movie Star.

Jason Ritter: Finally!

There are some actors I've known of and watched for years, but at a distance.   I've known of actor Jason Ritter since first seeing on screen in Swimfan in 2002.  Yet, despite how many roles he's played, and how many movies and television shows he's been in, I've never really gotten into to many of the projects he's been a part of.

There were certainly projects Jason was in that  I really should have watched, or been a fan of.  I mean I started watching Joan of Arcadia and Parenthood, but never got back the first few episodes.   Except for a few guest roles on sitcoms, and his turn as Otis in Happy Endings, (2005) a gay character trying to hide his sexuality from his father, somehow I've not seen much of Ritter's work.

Still, that doesn't mean I didn't take notice of his adorable face, and have featured him in birthday posts on the site a few times.  I also follow him on social media, and especially love some of his posts about his wife, the incredibly talented and beautiful Melanie Lynskey.  As adorable as ever at 45, I finally connected with a show this summer that Jason is a part of.

I put off watching Matlock last season, mainly because like many, I didn't have positive feelings about the original.   Now to be fair, I never watched a minute of the original version with Andy Griffith, but it was a show both my parents sat down to watch when I was a kid.  That was enough to turn me off.  Then, over the last few months, I read about the 'twist' and saw the great reviews, and acclaim that Kathy Bates has been getting, and finally, this past June, started to watch.

Happy Endings

Matlock is really a female driven show, with strong performances by both Bates and Skye P. Marshall.  Ritter does get a few moments to shine, and I'm hoping he has a bit more to do in the second season.  He's a really welcoming and likable television actor and deserves more story to really shine.  Ritter isn't the only hottie on the legal procedural, there's also the equally adorable David Del Rio and the intensely sexy Andrew Ghai who guest starred as A.D.A Andrew Park in three of the first season's episodes.  The good thing about waiting to watch a network show, is that I have just one episode in season one to finish before the second season begins next month.

Although Ritter's had several butt baring scenes, my favorite is in the 2007 drama, The Education of Charlie Banks. (below)

Man on the Street: Axie by nydudearon2

'Halfway up the hill I realised that we were in a very quiet area and was struck by the impulsive desire to remove my jockstrap. Feeling a familiar rush, I quickly pulled my jockstrap down and off.'

One of my favorite parts about public nudity is are the cmnm, (clothed male, nude male) elements in play.  I was initially surprised that Axie expressed being nervous upon arriving in Castro.  Then I thought back to the previous pieces featuring the Aussie's previous naked risk taking adventures.  Most of them were public nude events.  There were usually other naked men involved and when not, at least events in which naked men were expected to be seen.

Although stripping down is not uncommon in the Castro neighbourhood, when Axie first arrived, he only saw clothed people.  He also saw a lot plenty of people, busy and working, some of whom Axie thought appeared to be straight.  Most were just going on with their regular day, not necessarily looking for, or expecting a strip show.  Later, once Aaron (nydudearon2) arrived, , Axie decided to rise to the challenge and strip down to his jockstrap.  Instead of my rambling on, I'll let Axie tell the rest of the story.  Clearly things went well, as Axie eventually even slid off his one piece of fashion, to as you can see, a welcoming audience.

'After Aaron arrived we walked to a quieter area. While I was less nervous after spotting the another naked man, I still felt a surge of nerves and adrenaline as I began to remove my clothing. While the area had been almost deserted, the moment I lowered my shorts about three or four cars drove past.

My nerves disappeared the moment that I was stripped down to my jockstrap - and I felt confident and excited. I eagerly posed for a series of photos as Aaron directed me. The occasional passerby did not appear to react or be concerned by my mostly naked appearance, and so I felt free to embrace the moment.'

'We decided to walk up a nearby hilly street to get a decided new angle for photos. Halfway up the hill I realised that we were in a very quiet area and was struck by the impulsive desire to remove my jockstrap. Feeling a familiar rush, I quickly pulled my jockstrap down and off.

Holding the jockstrap to cover my cock, I asked Aaron to take some photos - planning to redress as soon as we got a few pics. My plans were interrupted when a group of around five to six men suddenly walked out of a nearby property. I had no time to react, standing completely naked in the street, hands cupping my balls.'

'Their delight at finding me naked in the street was immediately evident, and many of them made praising comments as they walked past. I was mostly speechless in the moment, instead laughing and smiling as this group of men expressed admiration. A couple of the men stopped to take photos of their own, and I eagerly posed for their photos.'

'After this group moved on, I pulled my jockstrap back on and we moved into a slightly busier part of town. After posing for a few more photos in my jockstrap, I felt a familiar urge and before I had time to think I was naked again. This time I wasn't interrupted by anyone, and we got a quick photo without any hands covering.'

'As we decided to wrap up the adventure, I got dressed and we walked back through the Castro. However, arriving at the Castro sign I decided that I needed one last photo - and dropped the back of my shorts to expose my butt in the middle of the busiest part of the street. Again, nobody reacted negatively, but a few people nearby smiled and laughed.'

'Exhausted after my shenanigans, I thanked Aaron for documenting an amazing afternoon and headed off back to my hotel.  I loved my time in San Francisco and definitely plan to be back soon. Next time I plan on a longer and more naked adventure in the Castro.'
