Happy Birthday today January 14th

I couldn't decide if birthday boy Grant Gustin looked hotter in his lenses... in his tight leather... or flashing a bit of skin. Well, it's his birthday, so why narrow it down to just one look.

 Happy 25th Grant!

DAVISICON: Visible Tension

'Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.'
Theodore Roosevelt

Whenever I am putting together a piece about a specific shoot, I like to get a feel for how it went and any comments from the participants on what the experience was like. DAVISICON creator and photographer William, always has great comments, on the creation process and the time and work that went into creating the beauteous, flawless final images he creates.

Sometimes however, the results stem from an artist having to work with what is, scrapping original plans and concepts and use what is working. William could tell right away that Alexander was not totally at ease in front of the camera. So many photographers describe models in terms of comfortability, and the natural way they interact with the camera, and the artist behind it. Sometimes when is a model is inexperienced, even timid it is up to the photographer to draw them out to get the shots they are looking for.

With Alexander, William took a different approach. What he saw when looking through the camera both subtle and strong but instead of trying to change what he saw, he instead utilized Alexander's masculine beauty and even the shyness and vulnerability that draws you directly, and intensely to his incredible blue eyes.

It was I who requested from William to feature his work with Alexander as I felt there was great power and emotions within the portraits, I had assumed the emotions were planned and directed, but they actually have more depth knowing they were generic to the experience. It is a testament to the initial potential William saw in Alexander, and his skill as an artist that the resulting images hold the viewers attention. Once William saw what working, and his focus became solely Alexander's incredible face and eyes, beautiful moments of tension were captured.

James Carpinello in Let's Kill Ward's Wife

'Everyone hates Ward's wife and wants her dead, Ward (Donald Faison) most of all. But when his friends' murderous fantasies turn into an (accidental) reality, they have to deal with a whole new set of problems - like how to dispose of the body and still make their 3 p.m. tee time.'

One of Ward's friends is Ronnie played by actor James Carpinello, and I have been following his acting career since first spotting him on Felicity years ago. In addition to movies and television, James has a long list of stage roles including playing Stacee Jaxx as part of the original 2009 cast of Rock of Ages. (which btw, is closing this Sunday) I also loved James on The Good Wife, which inspired my first piece on the actors work back in 2010. (Favorite Guy From The Good Wife)

Let's Kill Ward's Wife, in addition to giving us a naked scene with James, brings the actor together with his former Felicity co-star Scott Foley. Foley not only acts in the flick, he makes his motion picture directorial debut. Also appearing are actor Donald Faison, fellow Broadway alum Patrick Wilson and James real life wife, Amy Acker. Their daughter Ava also makes an appearance in the film.

Steeped: Patrick Tarpey by Suntown Photography

'We worked outside for a couple of hours before returning back to the hotel. The final sequence in the shoot was within the room.'

Just before Christmas, FH joined Suntown Photography, along with model Patrick Tarpey, on location within the fir trees, on the rocks and moss with the forest location in which they were shooting. In that piece,(The Grove) Patrick took us along for the adventure and shared stories about his experiences modeling thus far, and his adventures within the woods. 'The weather was overcast but dry, the only problem was that the ground was wet and I'd occasionally slip when scaling obstacles in the forest - which if you're completely naked is probably a hilarious sight.'

Suntown sent on an huge selection of images from the shoot, so many that I wanted to focus the first piece on a selection of images connected to one specific location within the woods. Never one to pass up sharing great images, I asked Suntown and Patrick if I could do a follow-up using images from the final sequence once they left the location and headed back to the hotel.

With the shoot completed, and all of those poses (and naked slip and slides) Patrick need to relax, steeping both a cup of tea, and his body after the long day. Both set of images, these from within the hotel, and the previous set outside, both beautifully fit into FH's 2015 theme of 'behind the scenes.' Although Suntown captured many incredible shots, his camera clicked consistently from the days beginning, to it's actual steamy ending.
