If I Only Had A Heart

I'd be tender, I'd be gentle
And awful sentimental
Regarding love and art
I'd be friends with the sparrows
And the boy that shoots the arrows
If I only had a heart

After seeing NBC's live version of THE WIZ, I inspired to put together a FH themed tribute to the classic story. I thought his year's musical was the best of the three, yet somehow for me lacked that 'edge of your seat watching' experience. The actors were as a whole were extraordinary, although I still can't bring myself to fully commit to liking Mary J Blige... I think I am alone though in missing the 'risk' factor of wondering if Christopher Walken would remember his lines or the cringe worthy, but fun, attempts at emoting from Carrie Underwood. Part of a live show is wondering what might go wrong, and this year... nothing really did. Sadly, the photographer whose Wizard of Oz images I wanted to use, although initially on board, never responded to my last attempts at support. That's ok, these images of the Tin Man on the runway from a 2007 post will do the trick nicely!

Muscles & Mountains: Joel

First 8 Images above from Gordon Nebeker

'The models (Joel, Will, and Rob) were terrific! They came ready to give their full effort to realize the photographs we wanted to take. Each of them very different in many ways and yet they got along very well together. I would not hesitate to work with any or all of them again and can recommend them highly.'

As I said when I posted on Sunday when posted Muscles and Mountains, photographers Gordon Nebeker, Mike Tossy and Studio MG Photography provided so many incredible visuals, individual follow-ups were not just required, but demanded. Today we begin with the youngest model of the Moab trio, Joel. Many of you might be familiar with Joel's work, and some of you might remember my profile of his modeling work early last year. (Getting Off Easy)

Although all three models shine both when together, and when shot separately, Joel seemed to act as sort of the Nexus in many of the images. Joel has the ability to connect with whomever he is shooting with, and in many of the images, seems to pull the three models together, both physically and organically. When it comes to natural wonders, Joel's incredible body, beautiful green eyes, and his perfectly sculpted butt give those mountains a run for their money.

Hans Fahrmeyer & An Eric Extra

'While some photographers try to beautify and smooth out rough edges, Hans strives to tap into them, bringing out a sexual urgency unique to Hans work. When I see a model shot by Hans, I usually see something unique brought out, something others may brush over, Hans taps into and brings to life.'

November on FH ended with the welcomed return of Sunday's With Hans. The series, featuring the work of New York artist Hans Fahrmeyer, began in 2009 with close to 80 different pieces showcasing the many men shot by Hans. In the November feature, A Sunday's Return, the spotlight was on Eric, whose sultry side was perfectly captured by Hans.

I knew at the time that I was going to be going away and incredibly busy over the holidays, so tucked away some of the shots to save for this week. I know it's not Sunday, but for this week, it's Tuesday with Hans. There was also almost a festive feel to the images due to the way Hans surrounded Eric with so many beautifully muted colors.

Hans work is often referred to as erotically charged, and very good reason. Although many images of the male form can be described as erotic, not all photographers capture it the same way, or to the same degree. Some are subtle, some even attempt to hide, or mask erotic content, some for creative reasons, some others, almost in fear of offending groups of viewers.

Hans shows no fear within his artistry, he knows his audience, and clearly understands, those who might be offended by overt eroticism, were never going to be members of audience, no matter how subtle the carnality was presented. Hans sensuous final images come not just from his shooting, but because of the time and care he puts into the editing and processing of his work. As long as I have been featuring Hans work, I can feel part of his passion is working with his images, both with editing, and through collage and video.
