Gleeful? Kudos to Blake Jenner

Congratulations to Blake Jenner who last week took the crown on The Glee Project. I love Blake, he is adorable, earnest, caring to his fellow contestants, an immensely talented actor, a fun to watch dancer and a decent singer. But... It cannot go unnoticed that the judges of The Glee Project have for a second year in a row gone the 'Tiger Beat' route, leaving many talented singers (mostly female) to sing do wop in the background.

Ryan Murphy and company could have had an Adele, but instead, went for Bieber. No slight to Blake, he will make a great Finn.2.O. My problem is that the show spent much of the first 10 episodes slamming the contestants about what it means to be on Glee, those underdog, minimized and bullied teens who shine so well on Glee. Yet...even with the power voiced Alyn and Ali, both with back stories far more riveting than Blake's (did he even share one...), they ended up picking the Captain of the football team, the most popular and good looking of the group. As much as Blake deserves it, the show needs to revisit it's motto and foundation. It's connection to it's winner is about as consistent as the storytelling on the Fox show.

Pretty sure this pick was obvious quite a long way out. But he won't be there at the start of the season, cause they were already filming, so maybe his seven eps will set him up for the following season.

And you're right, other than funding out he has a gay brother I don't recall too much of his back story. Would have been nice to have a Muslim girl in the show, but I bet they thought about how some of the storylines might have caused more controversy than the show could take. After all they more than likely be showing a Muslim girl breaking from her heritage, rather than one who is comfortable within her culture and that would probably cause anger in the Muslim community and a whole bunch of " why don't they all assimilate " calls which wouldn't be great for anyone.
