A Look Back: Rodney Harvey

Although I consider myself a film buff, there are many well known and 'must see' movies that I have to discover and enjoy.  Last week, I finally watched Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders.  Although I'd heard of the film, and knew of it's famous cast, it was not a movie I was every really drawn to seek out and watch.  Seeing that the 1983 film was playing on a retro movie channel, I decided to DVR and finally watch.

I guess the film was pretty much what I expected.  I enjoyed it, and am glad I finally watched.  I can't say that I really loved it though.  Given the star studded cast, most in the early stages of their careers, I did google a bit to find out about the casting process.   The searching led me to find out the film had a brief 1990 television series based on the film.  The show featured Jay R. Ferguson, Boyd Kestner, David Arquette, Robert Rusler and the beautiful Rodney Harvey.

It's no surprise given his good looks that Harvey caught the eye and was discovered by director. Paul Morrissey.  Morrissey went on to cast Harvey in two films, Mixed Blood (1985) and Bensonhurst. (1988)  After his initial success the young actor moved to Los Angeles.

In the television version, Harvey played Sodapop in the series, the role played by Rob Lowe in the film.  Although Sodapop wasn't heavily featured in the film, he does appear to have been one of the leads in the TV show. The show only lasted 13 episodes, but it did bring Harvey to a wider audience.  Prior to the show,

Harvey was a model, who had shot with many of the industries biggest photogs, including working several times with Bruce Weber , including a spread with Madonna for Life Magazine.  He also had the lead in 1988's Salsa. After the show's cancellation, Harvey went on to take the lead in La Bocca and co-starred alongside Drew Barrymore in Gun Crazy.  Harvey also played a hustler, and friend to Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix in 1991's My Own Private Idaho.  Harvey's last on-screen role was in 1996's God's Lonely Man.

Sadly the beautiful and talented actor died in 1998. It's reported he began using Heroin during the filming of My Own Private Idaho.  Despite attempts to get clean, and several stints in jail, Heroin sadly took over and won with Harvey dying of a drug overdose.  Death is especially sad when it's someone so young and with so much potential.  One can only imagine what his future may have held.

Welcome Aboard!

I know it's been on since 2013, but I just recently discovered Below Deck.  I think because they're both on boats,  I thought the show was connected to The Deadliest Catch.  I guess I wasn't really paying attention.  A few months ago I caught an episode of Below Deck Mediterranean from the shows fifth, and most recently aired season.

I was immediately drawn to the Mediterranean's incredibly blue seas, the beautiful islands and locations and the drama surround Chief Steward Hannah Ferrier.  Now after watching the episode I went on-line and I found out Hannah is polarizing with the shows fans.  I loved her, flaws and all.  She's beautiful and I love her accent.  I also loved her intolerance for most of those around her.  If she was on your side, she had your back, but if not, you'd better watch out.

The episode I watched was about mid-way through the season, but thankfully, Amazon had the entire series so I was able to go back and watch the season from the beginning.  Season 5 didn't end well for Hannah, but I'm certain after watching the reunion, that she's doing ok.  I was looking forward to watching season 6, but the show unfortunately brought back Captain Sandy and Malia, two on the show I wasn't so found of...

A boat is only as effective as it's crew, and although I wasn't a fan of Malia the person, she proved a decent bosun.  Her deck crew included three hot guys, Peter, Robert and my favorite Alex Radcliffe.  Peter proved to be a bit of a douche, confirmed by his chauvinism, and some problematic social media posts.  Former model Robert is incredibly hot, but is a little distant, still fighting his own demons.

Alex however, was the nice guy, friendly with all, with a season relatively drama free, at least by this crews standards.  Alex is also incredibly hot, with a great face, and a body I'd love to snuggle up with. Alex gave us various views of his physique, often when one of the female stews was waxing off his back.   I'm just glad they didn't shave his sexy chest hair.

Alex and Robert

Although Below Deck does appear to show butts now and then, Alex waited until after the show was over to give us a flash.  Alex mooned during a Instagram story chat with fellow Below Decker Bobby, and showed another his 'wax hair' line on an episode of Below Deck: Galley Talk.

Bodytorium: The Most Important Meal of the Day

'Sometimes improvised ideas are the best. I had a really fun time running around, crawling on the floor and getting into tight spots to get as many angles as possible.'

For me, couples shoots are often hit or miss.  Of course I love seeing two hot men together, but to me, so often, couple shoots are over produced and overly sexual.  It sometimes feels like the photographer doesn't trust in the innate eroticism of two naked bodies in close proximity.  It is incredibly erotic to have two hot naked men together, but it doesn't always have to be overtly sexual.  Viewers can imagine whatever they want, but I especially love, when models, whether one or two, partake in every day everyday activities, completely nude.

Some of my favorite shoots from Bodytorium have included two models together.  I can tell from the post counts that FH viewers also enjoyed seeing Lukas and Robert (HERE:) horse playing and taking a bath together, and Andrew and Lukas K (HERE:) stripping down for a run.  I also love when Lukas K shows up (HERE:) assisting and supporting one of his buddies through their first nude shoot.  Although there's nothing sexual between these straight friends hanging out naked, there is something incredibly fun about it, and incredibly hot.

'I’ve had many requests for another duo like Andrew and Lukas, or Lukas and Robert. Finally the time has arrived with Michal and Yuri. I also really enjoy the duos and I’ve actually intended to do a photoshoot event last year with at least 4 guys with a ski trip / winter cottage party theme, but unfortunately the timing hasn’t been right. Slovakia has been in a lockdown since mid-December and it keeps being extended. But the winter will pass and things will get better.'

Michal and Yuri are close friends and Phil met and “interviewed” both of them about a week before the photoshoot.  Phil shares that they came across as being both excited and a bit hesitant about their photo shoots, especially given Phil had scheduled them on the same day. Phil assured them that it would be fun, that at most they would be posing just doing something innocent and and be playful together.  Phi was clear he wasn't expecting them to French kiss, or anything physical between them.

'Michal and Yuri stayed in separate rooms during the solo shots. Later we took a short break and went to the grocery store tore to grab some food and that’s where the “making breakfast” idea came up. They weren’t completely comfortable with the idea of being completely naked around each other, but I told them that we’d start off with them being in their underwear and see how it goes. They were easygoing guys and I had a hunch it would be fine. And it was. At one point Michal asked Yuri if it had ever crossed his mind, when they first met each other, that one day they would appear in a nude photo shoot together. They laughed. '

'On a more positive note, I've also noticed that there is a lot more spontaneous and fun energy when two or more straight guys strip down and pose nude together. It kind of comes across as a childish thing when kids are amused by doing something they shouldn't, something "naughty". And at the same time it feels good. Posing nude seems have a therapeutic effect on some of the guys I've photographed and I've been thinking of ways of making this sort of experience more popular and available to men. '

You can see much more of both Michael and Yuri, both together, and in solo shoots
