Over the years, I've featured many veterans on the blog. Many photographers and performers, and also many models. It initially surprised me to hear that a model I was featuring, one still in their late twenties or thirties, was a veteran. So many enlisted and served overseas, to then return home and find things had changed, and their lives were in flux.
So many had relationships change while they were away, and so many needed to find work, a focus and a direction. Many needed something very different than the life they previously were living. Several shared their stories of turning to modeling as a new challenge, something fun and artistic, something a million miles away from what they experienced during their service.
Most didn't model for very long, it was a fun diversion during the transition period between their military duties, and the duties that life demands of all of us. I think of those models often, not just their images, but the stories they shared. On this Veterans and Remembrance Day, I truly hope every veteran who checks out FH from time to time, and the many veterans who have contributed to the site, know how much so many of us respect and value not only their service, but the sacrifices they made, the trauma they endured, and the burdens many continue to carry.
