The Beach House: Victor by Bob Burkhardt

'We shot for maybe 20 minutes and then headed home.'
Bob Burkhardt

Last month, before the start of Autumn, FH closed out the summer season with a trip to the beach.  The shoot featured Victor on a Provincetown beach shot photographer Bob Burkhart. (Best Laid Plans) If you checked out that previous piece, you know the shoot wasn't a long one.  It was a really hot day, so hot, that standing in the sand for too long was painful on the feet.  Given the lack of a breeze, and need to walk great distances to find private spaces to shoot nudes, Bob cut the beach portion of the shoot off after about 20 minutes.

Although Victor and Bob left the beach, the shoot continued, this time, inside the air conditioned Beach House where Bob was staying.  Within the Beach House, Victor was able to strip down, and pose without risking a nasty burn on his bare skin.  It also provided more opportunities for Victor to display his gorgeous body in  sensual poses showing off his beautiful lines and curves.  I've always loved how naturally adept Victor is at pose creation and how artistically Bob captures them all.

Living in Calgary, Victor doesn't often get the opportunity to head to a salt water beach.  Although Canada is surrounded by oceans, (Artic, Atlantic and Pacific) on three sides, the closest ocean to where Victor lives, is over 700 miles away.  That doesn't mean there aren't beaches, just not ones near a sea or an ocean. So... although the beach shoot may not have been a picnic for Bob, Victor enjoyed each of the twenty minutes he spend in the sand and the sun.

What did you want to get out of your recent shoot with Bob?
I have always been a Canadian city boy and didn't grow up around beaches. I'd been looking forward to the Provincetown trip with Bob all year and loved the idea of doing some beach shoots since it's a rare environment for me to be in. We have local smaller ones by rivers/reservoirs, but nothing quite like the East Coast. Definitely wanted to capture the beauty of Provincetown and Cape Cod in general.

Did you enjoy shooting on the beach?
I sure did, I had to watch out for glass in the sand but the beach served as a great environment for photos.

Did you have to worry about other people being around?
For the nudes, we had to venture further down the beach where people weren't gathered. It was a hot day so we didn't have to worry too much about being walked in on.

Are you a beach person?
I love a good beach and definitely hope I visit more. I'm not a sun tanner mostly because of my tattoos and need to keep them looking sharp, but do love it (slathered in sunscreen). This nude beach shoot with Bob was probably one of my most memorable.

Have you gone to a nude beach before?
Not until just recently!  I just checked out a local gay nude beach in Calgary. It's a beach that's off the main path of a park and a 20 minute hike away. Given it was one of the last nice days of the year, there was a lot of skin on display.

Any specific memories or moments stand out from this beach shoot?
Although it wasn't a super long shoot due to the heat, I loved taking the water taxi to the beach and strolling through there and dipping in the water. Just beautiful to be by the water.
