Just Because: When is too soon?

Just Because: When is too soon...

Was saddened to see on 'The Today Show' yesterday friends of Corey Haim going through his things deciding what they will put up on ebay. It would be nice to think this was because they wanted to share a piece of Corey with his fans. That might be something I could swallow if it were a month or two from now. Given it was the day after he died...nah. Money is a dirty motivator.

Below: Corey in the beautiful film 'Lucas' (1986).

I never thought I was a big Corey Haim fan. The last decade or so I, like many others I am sure thought of Corey more for his struggles than for his accomplishments. It is sad to me that when one dies it is the struggles that get the attention. I was surprised looking back at his career how many of his films I loved. 'The Lost Boys' and 'Lucas' would be at the top of my list.

My 'too soon' question though is not about the friends selling on ebay it is about nudity. Corey had a nude scene in 'Blown Away' and if you search this blog the shots of his beautiful butt are on full display. My question is do we really want these shots posted on the heels of his death. Corey was an actor, not a model and not an actor who dropped his pants every time the camera rolled.

I was a bit shocked on the heels of Corey's death how many male celebrity 'gay themed sites' and how many emails I got that showcased Corey's nude scene. Same thing happened when Heath Ledger and Brad Renfro died. I am not a prude, I capped the scenes, I posted the scenes but are those the pictures that should be posted just after a young celebrity dies.

Maybe I am alone in these thoughts, be curious to know. I have no issues with showing the beauty of a male celebrity after they have left us. I do have a problem doing so with an actor (maybe not a model) right after they die. To me it is like selling their personal items on ebay. That old corny word 'tacky' is the one that comes to mind. Be curious on others thoughts?

Saturday Flashback: Keanu Reeves in 'Parenthood'

I remember going to see 'Parenthood' in 1989 with my entire family. I think it was the only movie we went to as a group. Usually when we were all together, at least 2 of my siblings would get into it one way or another. I was about 13 or 14 and remember how much I liked the film. Keanu in his tighty whities was a highlight at the time.

Re watching 'Parenthood' again recently, it still holds up. Keanu is still a hit, but I also love the work of all the cast, especially the wonderful Dianne Wiest who I have loved in so many movies. Keanu in his undies aside, my favorite scene involves an actor I once loved, Joaquin Phoenix. Long before he got so odd Joaquin made some great flicks. The scene in 'Parenthood' where he calls his father on the phone, only to be rejected hit me hard then, whacks and emotional punch now.

Viggo Mortensen in 'The Road'

Viggo Mortensen could just take hero roles like in 'The Lord Of The Rings' but Viggo rarely takes the easy road. Viggo is one of the hottest men in Hollywood who has given us countless nude scenes. Viggo is also one of Hollywood's most interesting actors making movies and taking on roles in movies that are risky. Risky because actors like Bruce Willis and Tom Cruise cater more to their audience than to the craft of acting and movie making. Viggo does no such thing. Some of his movies are hits, some are misses.

Last years 'The Road' was one of those movies. Most certainly a bomb by Hollywoods 'money making' standard. Many reviewers called it Bleak and disturbing, and one the most difficult films of the year to watch. But...they also said don't miss it and that it is one of the most riveting, emotionally draining, and strangely beautiful films of the decade. That, to me is a Viggo Mortensen movie.

Thanks to Braxnis for the caps!

Male Model Of The Day: Michael Edward

I really enjoyed getting to know model Michael Edward while researching him for this post the last day or so. Michael, 30, hails from West Virginia and really seems to get joy out of his modeling. Beautiful body and a face with a winning grin. Love how natural Michael looks in front of the camera.

Michael has a great blog, which really does a great job of showcasing what it is like being a new model trying to break into the business. Michael shares photos as well as stories of his experiences during shoots and runway shows. Michael also shares a bit about himself when not in front of the camera lens.
