'I've done some freaky shit.'
If you've spent much time on FH, you know my goal is to present more than just great shots of hot models. I strive to a story, about the artist, the model, and how the process behind the visuals viewers are enjoying. I do this for a few reasons, starting with my innate curiosity, and my love telling stories.
I also want to ensure to credit the artists behind the work. Photography is an art form, but it's also hard work, and so many people copy, and repost images without giving credit. Some even take the time to crop out a watermark to ensure credit is even harder to detect. Finally, I want to ensure I can put a name with every model that I feature. My passion for photography of the male form doesn't mean I want to promote objectifying another human being.
I know some may feel this may conflict with my posting hot, naked photos of beautiful men, and maybe it does. Objectifying however, is about seeing or presenting a person as an object or as a toy. I have no desire to post a series of anonymous naked body parts, but instead spotlight a fellow human being, one with purpose, with opinions, and with a name.
In order to achieve this, I hound and pester every artist and model I feature, with questions about their work, and the behind the scenes pieces that make up the creative process. Whether I achieve that goal is up to the viewer, but I hope all my rambles and stories make it just a little bit harder, to scroll quickly down to get to the genitals.
Photographer
Shax Carter has a similar goal when it comes to his new book series theme. Many of you have seen and enjoyed my previous posts featuring Shax's work. I've featured many of Shax's shoots, and subsequent book, featuring the models he's worked with. I've previously written about Shax's process of shooting one model over a long period of time. Doing this, Shax presents a full visual picture and story of the model in focus.
For his new Unfiltered series, Shax wants to do tell even more of the story. Much like a behind the scenes featurette of a movie, Unfiltered gives a more raw and untouched presentation of the models he's worked with. Books filled with outtakes, and behind the scenes visuals giving the viewer less filtered look at other sides of the model, and glimpses into their personalities and who they really are. Those quick moments between the edited shots that are usually released and featured.
The first model Shax featured in the new series was Leo. Many of you remember meeting Leo last year when I featured his work with Shax in Alaska. (
HERE:) I followed that piece up with a smaller piece on Leo, (

Unfiltered: Leo Behind The Scenes features of hundreds of photos of Leo in the over 360 page book. The book is available in both a deluxe hard cover edition, as well as downloadable PDF version.
'Leo's work has always been a time capsule for me. I wanted to give the people who enjoyed Leo's books a chance to see behind the camera, and let them see a little bit of Leo's great personality. We had great fun creating those images and I wanted to present the fullest body of work possible from that summer with Leo.'
'I would get hard, but I tried desperately to hide it.'
In addition to hundreds of images of Leo, for
Unfiltered, Shax also encouraged Leo to share a bit about himself, his past, and more specifically, stories spotlighting his erotic awakening and sexual journey. In Unfiltered, Leo shares many stories from his past, including his wildest sexual experiences with women, and a few early brief body brushes with men as well.
'I've never actually had anal sex, like no one has actually put a penis in my butt....They tried, but I was like, no. I fucked somebody else in the ass, yeah, plenty. Probably my friend Gary was the first time.'
