Home From Work
'Some guys they just give up living, others start dying little by little piece by piece, some guys come home from work and wash up, and go racing in the street.'
Bruce Springsteen
Although it was back in 2011 that I first featured the work of Melbourne photographer Ian from
macpics, I have been fortunate to be able to share more of his imagery in features over the last several months. Most of those have focused on studio and portfolio work so I am really pleased to be able to featured Ian's recent
Home From Work series.
I was impressed with Ian's images of Miguel for many reasons, the coming home story, complete from beginning to end, being just the start. Miguel is visually the perfect model for Ian's story, incredible body with beautiful dark hair and features. Miguel also has such a great face and intelligent eyes that bring a realistic blend within the series. I have often seen models set in business or professional work type situations and many come across as boys playing dress up. Miguel is man who truly looks like he is releasing out, all that his day entailed.
What I also love about Ian's images are all that surround Miguel. Without distracting from the model, every picture on the wall, book, knick-knack and art piece tell us who Miguel is, enabling the viewer to have even deeper insight to what Miguel is thinking as he winds down from his day.
Bruce Springsteen's lyrics about coming from work ran through my head as soon as I started to work on this piece. For me, Miguel, after showering and cleaning up, will be clearly going racing, whatever racing means to him on that particular night...
