It's summertime, meaning many of us do a lot of our eating out, outside. We munch our sandwiches and snacks with the sunshining above, the birds chirping around us, and the wind blowing our paper plates all over the place. Curious though...when you picnic, do you prefer setting your tuchus on a warm, welcoming blanket, or down on a hard piece of wood?
It's an age old question, with pros and cons accompanying each choice. On a wooden picnic table, you don't need a blanket, and there's usually plenty of space to spread out your meal. You also don't have to worry about your jug of Kool-Aid or bottle of pop or water falling over The wooden seats however, can often be pretty hard, and often just waiting to spread a splinter into your skin. They are also well worn, meaning wobbly, and many a butt has slid off the end of a picnic table bench, especially if alcohol is part of the meal.
On a blanket on the ground, you're a wee bit closer to nature. Although just a foot or two lower than the picnic table, it sometimes feels like you're in an entirely different world. You can sit, or even lay down and when you're done, you just shake out the blanket and be done with it. You're also however, closer to ground traveling insects, especially ants. How many of us have set down our blanket, only to quickly discover we laid it over an ant hill.
