A young man grieving the loss of his twin brother joins a support group for "twinless twins."
I know yet again I'm late to the party, but I finally watched Twinless this past weekend. I say finally, as I've been reading and seeing lots of positive comments and reviews, and the film was released theatrically in September and is now streaming. I love films with new and unique concepts and story ideas, and Twinless certainly delivers!
The film has a great cast including Lauren Graham, (Gilmore Girls ) and Chris Perfetti, (Abbott Elementary) The lead characters are inhabited by actors Dylan O'Brien and James Sweeney. I've always had an appreciation for the choices O'Brien has made with his career. Sure, he's had high profile roles in television shows like Teen Wolf and on screen in the Maze Runner film series, but he's always balanced those roles with interesting roles in lower budge, more artsy projects and independent films.
The revelation for me however, was Sweeney, (below) who not only stars in the film, but also wrote and directed it. With the very first few moments of the film, Sweeney quickly sets the tone, letting the audience know they're about t experience something different and new. The concept was fascinating, and although I'm sure has been covered in cinema before, was presented in a way I'd never seen before.
Although the film begins with the audience seeing through Roman's, (O'Brien) eyes, we quickly dive into Dennis's, (Sweeney) world and find ourselves invested in both characters. I won't give too much away, but if you're one of the few who hasn't checked it out, Twinless is now streaming on PRIME.
