Some of my favorite shoots to feature are shot in old, neglected and abandoned buildings and spaces. There's a blend of the old and the new, the forgotten and remembered, the dead and the alive. For me, there's nothing more melancholy and thought provoking than an old and long abandoned school. Along with the broken desks and empty hall and stairways are the memories. How many firsts happened in that building, how many shared secrets, sexual experiences and hopes and dreams both began and ended within it's walls.
Some of my favorite photographers, StudioMGphotography, Lights On Studio and Doug Vetter graciously shared their visuals and experiences of shooting male models in abandoned schools. Each not only captured the playgrounds, classrooms and gymnasiums, they also all captured that sad nostalgia of a school no longer able to provoke and provide learning, life lessons, safety and and uniquely adolescent memories.
