'The moon has awoken with the sleep of the sun, the light has been broken; the spell has begun.'
If you're a long time reader of FH, you know that it's become tradition to share some vintage holiday photos each HALLOWEEN. I love seeing visuals from past October 31st's, especially images taken long before I even born. One of my favorites is HERE: I also love sharing my annual HALLOWEEN message, explaining why I, and I think so many others, have such an affinity for All Hallows Eve.
Unlike most holidays, HALLOWEEN is one that you can make entirely your own. There are no pressures to decorate (which I do), or cook, (which I don't) and there are no family meals or visits from that cousin you choose to avoid most of the rest of the year.
There are no gifts to buy, nor pressure to spend a ton of money. With the exception of forking out a bit for candy, if you give it out, October 31st, can be pretty much cost free. There are no battles over whether the religious connection should or should not be in the play. There's no pressure to attend a church, synagogue or any place of worship, your traditions for the day, are entirely your own.
Halloween is also the night you be truly yourself. You can not wear a costume, or dress-up, which ever you prefer. If you chose a costume, you can one that hides who you are, or one that reveals a part of yourself that you're usually to shy or scared to share. On top of all of that, you can also just appreciate the pleasure of a bowl of mini KitKats!
