James Brolin in The Amityville Horror

'The house is doing things, windows open by themselves, a room full of flies at the wrong time of the year.  Last night the front door was ripped off its hinges, from the inside.'
George Lutz

In addition being well received by most film critics,  many credit The Amityville Horror of changed the career of it's lead actor James Brolin.    Prior to accepting the part, Brolin was working on the drama, Night of the Juggler.  Although there was no script for Amityville, Brolin was encouraged to read the source novel written by Jay Anson.

While reading the book, especially when reading some of the scarier scenes, Brolin recalled in interviews of experiencing some paranormal activity in the hotel that was staying at.  Brolin credits these occurrences as a sign he really needed to accept the part of George Lutz and to the movie.

In addition to being well received by critics, Brolin's scene in his tighty whities was well received by another set of critics, those with a passion for the male form.  As much as I love a good nude scene, there aren't enough scenes with men in white briefs.  Today, most actors in underwear scenes wear bulky boxers, underwear not really comfortable stuffed under a pair of tight jeans.

I think Brolin was at his hottest in the 70's and during the time around the making of the film.  He works the beard and long curly hair, not to mention the tight jeans and tighty whities.  Someone really dropped the ball by not casting Brolin and Kris Kristofferson as brothers or cousins in a project!

'I'm coming apart! Oh, mother of God, I'm coming apart!'

James Brolin: ACTORS & Skin

Before starting FH, I knew that James Brolin was an actor, I knew he was Josh Brolin's dad, and that he was married to Barbra Streisand,  I didn't however, really know much about his career.  Although I  saw bits of The Amityville Horror on television when I was a kid, I didn't really know the actors.  Although he was only in his late 30's during filming, I only saw Brolin as the old guy in the film.

Since then, my knowledge and appreciation for the man, and for the actor, has expanded.  Brolin started out acting professionally in the early 60's and quickly began getting roles in film and television.  Brolin became a household name in the 70's with his role on the medical series, Marcus Welby MD.   His turn in The Amityville Horror came just a few years after the film was cancelled.

Brolin almost hit it big on the big screen with Plant of the Apes, but things didn't work out as planned.  Brolin was hired to appear in a ten-minute screen test to try out the films concept for the studio.  Brolin played  Cornelius in the the preview film.  Although the screen test helped get the film green lit, Brolin wasn't hired for the film with the role of Cornelius going to Roddy McDowell.

The Car (1977)

'A small desert town is terrorized by a powerful, seemingly possessed car, and the local sheriff may be the only one who can stop it.'

Brolin didn't really do much on-screen nudity, but he did appear shirtless often in his career.  I recently saw and enjoyed Brolin's turn, and shirtless scene, in 1977's The Car.  You can check out his two nude scenes in the SKIN portion in the post below.

James Brolin: Actors & SKIN

Given Brolin began acting professionally  in the 1960's, when he was just 21, he did very little on-screen nudity.  He also started late with his first 'real' nude scene being his butt baring turn in 1991's Ted & Venus.  Brolin was 51 at the time of the film's release.

Brolin in Gable & Lombard (1976)

After his successful turn in the 1980's Aaron Spelling series Hotel, Brolin's career seem to stall a little, with most of his role in television movies and low budget films.  At 54, he went the softcore route, appearing with Shannon Tweed in 1994's Indecent Encounters II.   This phase didn't last long, as there were no more softcore flicks after he married Barbra Streisand in 1998.  Who knows, if it wasn't for their relationship, if there would have been more on-screen nudity on Brolin's resume.

Ted & Venus (1991)

'Ted Whitley is a poet who is stalking the woman of his dreams, Linda Turner. She was volunteering at a community resource project when he came in to find out about low cost housing.'

Indecent Behavior II (1994)

'Reporter Shoshona Reed is about to expose a number of people who have a lot to lose. Unfortunately, her cunning ways of getting stories by blackmailing people gets her killed.'

As with most softcore films, especially the many starring Shannon Tweed, the focus is always on the female form, and giving enough breast shots to satisfy all the male video renters.  In Indecent Behavior II, all we get a few side glimpse of Brolin's butt.

We do get a better few of actor Craig Stepp who also appears in the film. (HERE:)  Some reports are that Brolin, like Stepp has a quick frontal in the film, but to me it looks like a rather small privacy pouch.  You can decide for yourself in the last few shots below.
