Meanwhile Back at the Ranch

Although Brad Pitt had a few roles on his resume, two episodes of Another World and credits like 'boy at the beach' and 'uncredited partygoer',  and 'preppy kid at fight', it wasn't until 1987 when Pitt really began to grab attention.  Although he appeared in just a handful of episodes, DALLAS was still holding on to fairly decent ratings, and Pitt's turn as Randy was really the role that got things rolling.

I've written before that I have an odd emotional connection to DALLAS.  When I was a kid, it was the only television show both my mother and father sat down to watch together.  I used to love sitting down on Friday nights (before being sent to bed) and watch not so much the show, but my parents watching the show.  It was the one hour each week that our house was quiet, and my parents sat together enjoying the same thing.

I didn't really get to watch DALLAS, enjly and understand what was going on until years later when the nighttime soap's repeats were aired on TNN (The Nashville Network).  I remembered the hot studly blonde from his time on Dallas, but I didn't know his name, at least not at first.  There was no IMDB yet, and it wasn't until seeing Pitt in teen magazines that my crush was born.

Pitt briefly dated Dallas co-star Shalane McCall, and the teen couple was pushed front and center to promote the series to younger viewers.  One of Pitt's first promotional shoots included shots by photographer Kathy Amerman featuring Pitt with McCall to help promote the show.  As you can see, Pitt had already mastered his relationship with the camera, and was already quite skilled at connecting with the camera, and the audience.

Papa-paparazzi

Got my flash on, it's true
Need that picture of you

I generally don't post many nude shots from paparazzi on FH.  There are many reasons for it, the main one being almost most are taken without consent.  People always like to joke (justify) publishing unwanted nude images by making comments about the person, especially given their looks, and shouldn't be ashamed.  It's a silly argument, and is totally ignorant to what shame is, and where it may stem from in some.  Even those with great bodies may feel shame or embarrassment, depending on their history and life experiences.

I have made a few exceptions.  A few years ago when Orlando Bloom's nudes were all over the net, I posted a couple of the butt shots.  I chose to for two reasons.  First, Bloom has shown his butt on screen, but more importantly, seemed to roll with it with a sense of humour when discussing it on talk shows.  I don't want to be a hypocrite, I saw them, I enjoyed them, but like gossip, there's a difference between hearing (or in this case seeing) something, and spreading it around.

I'm aware that Pitt, (and Gywneth Paltrow) were not thrilled when these images were taken and released.  But it has been over twenty years, and they've not only been spread across the net, have been published in magazines all over the world, including the images here which came from a 1997 issue of Playgirl.

Although they may not have impressed Shania Twain,  most of us I think agree that Pitt looked incredible.  I was always especially transfixed for some reason.... by the image just above.  I'd be curious to hear what Pitt thinks of the images today.  I know he was furious at the time, in part, due to it's impact on his then girlfriend.  don't think I've heard him comment on their release in recent years.  He may feel exactly the same way, but I'd be curious what he thinks looking back now that he's a few years from turning sixty.

On the set of Troy (2004)

Although the 1997 paparazzi shots made headline news, the shots below made less of impact. Maybe it's because there are so few out there, but I always wish there were better versions of the the 2004 shots of Pitt sunbathing naked on a hotel balcony.  The shots were taken when Pitt was filming Troy, and if you've seen Troy, you know why tan lines would have been a problem.  If anyone's ever seen any other versions of these shot, let me know!

Brad Pitt: ACTORS & Skin

'Heartthrobs are a dime a dozen.'
Brad Pitt

Although heartthrobs may indeed be a dime a dozen, maintaining the status of heartthrob over multiple decades isn't as common.  Although Pitt has morphed from being appreciated for just his looks to also being respected for his talent, his reign as one of the movies greatest heartthrobs is still going strong.

Pitt's brief stint as Randy on Dallas may not have launched his career, but it did garner him attention, and his status as a teen idol was soon to morph into full fledged heartthrob.  After Dallas, Pitt spent the remainder of the eighties making television movies, including Dark Side of the Sun, (below) and did the TV guest circuit with roles on Thirtysomething, 21 Jump Street, Head of the Class and a couple of episodes of Growing Pains.

Dark Side of the Sun (1988)

Pitt began the nineties on a high note.  After getting one of the leads in the short lived Fox series Glory Days, Pitt began getting film roles, one of which would thrust him fully into heartthrob mode.  1991 marked the year Pitt got his first lead role in a film (Johnny Suede) and his first role in a mainstream blockbuster.  Pitt's role as the hunky sex stud J.D. in Thelma and Louise really catapulted into the beginnings of his stardom.

Thelma & Louise (1991)

Pitt's career took off and Pitt began working with some Hollywood heavyweights in films including; Cool World, A River Runs Through It, Kalifornia, and Interview With The Vampire. Pitt's crown as box office heartthrob was fully solidified with is 1994 role in Legends of the Fall.  For me, the mid-nineties marked my favorite period of Pitt's career.  Three of my favorite Pitt performances were in Seven, (1995)  Twelve Monkey's (1995) and Sleepers. (1996)   Although Pitt was now a huge movie star, and worked constantly, I wan't until almost ten ears later, with 2008's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button , that I again truly loved a Pitt performance.

Legends of the Fall (1994)

'I'm one of those people you hate because of genetics. It's the truth.'
Brad Pitt

I heard about Pitt's naked body years before actually seeing it.  I didn't see Thelma and Louise or Legends of the Fall at the theatre, but female friends of mine swore they saw him naked in the films.  I was salivating to take a look, but was disappointed when I finally saw them both on video.  Although Pitt may have been technically naked, (and was officially sizzling hot) in both,  it would be a couple of years later before we got a better view.

Twelve Monkey's (1995)

The Playgirl spread aside, the first time I saw Pitt's perfect posterior was in 1995's Twelve Monkey's.  His hospital mooning was quick, but memorable.  It made even more of an impact on me given I was on a date my girlfriend at the time.  She loved Pitt, and suggested the movie, and I think both of us hid our... well, our excitement, when Pitt shook his beautiful butt on the big screen in front of us.
