Like A Great Movie: Jon by Studio Kouros

'Working with Jon was a great experience.  Like a great movie…you don’t want it to be over.

Like many of you, I have collected many movies over the years.  The first collection, when I was a kid, was sadly on Betamax.  In the late 80's, when we got our first VCH, my parents were sure the smaller Betamax videos were the future... Then of course, my collection moved to VHS, and then to DVD. I skipped the Blu-ray phase and today, most of the movies in my personal archives are digital.

I know many people, who resist moving on to a new format.  Many parents especially, still keep the VHS copies of some of their Disney films.  I think it's more than just the quality of the movie, but the memories associated with it.  Part of their children's childhood include the hundreds of times they shoved 'The Little Mermaid' into the video machine.  But.. change comes, whether we want it or not and every time my collection had to switch formats it was hard.  And every time it happened, certain movies don't make the cut.  It's only the great movies, the ones we want to watch again and again, that we treasure and keep.

I say all of this, as Mark's (Studio Kouros) quote about his work with Jon had me thinking about all of the artists, models and images that I've featured over the years and of how memorable many of them have been.  Some, haven't made the changes and growth the blog has gone through over the years, but so many artists that I featured over a decade ago, are still along for the ride.  Many artists seemed to almost disappear, others faded away, no longer interested in the coverage. Many, I tried to pull along, some kicking and screaming along the way.

It was almost 10 years ago that I first discovered Mark's work.  (Dangerous Diversion) I was blown away with erotic intensity Mark captured, and blend of dynamic, bold and provocative poses with masculine beauty.  Because Mark's work was so memorable, I continued to go back to the Arkansas based artist about featuring more of his work.  In 2014, I was pleased to be able to spotlight his work with the ultra-hot  P-Jay. ( A Risky Business)

Since then, I've asked (bugged) Mark several more times, but the timing never seemed to be right.  A couple of months ago, when the pandemic seemed to be waning, I contacted Mark again.  Things were still a little busy on his end, but he promised to give me a shout when things calmed down. A few weeks later, Mark's images of Jon arrived in my inbox. I'd already noticed Jon on Mark's Model Mayhem portfolio and had been hoping he might be the subject of a future piece. I loved Jon's strong handsome face, and tight, muscular physique, and how great he looked in or out of whatever he was wearing. Mark had also noticed how great Jon looked in, and out of his clothing, after spotting his images on Model Mayhem.

'Jon had such a chill vibe, it was really easy to work with him. He was very comfortable with his body and being naked. I do my level best to discuss expectations. During the course of the session, I found myself hoping that we could work together again.

That doesn’t always happen. As good as some models are, one shoot is sufficient. There are a few guys, though, that you need to see again…like a great movie…you don’t want it to be over so you hope to revisit the experience and ideally find other things to appreciate the second time. Luck was with me, almost exactly one year later we were creating again; the images here are culled from both engagements.'

Tom Villard in The Trouble With Dick

When I first started FH, I didn't really know who actor Tom Villard was.  I knew his face, it's incredibly expressive and distinct, and I recognized from watching repeats of The Golden Girls with my mom when I was a kid.  Tom made two memorable appearances during the shows run.  Over the last decade or so, there were several signs that had me thinking I needed to shine the spotlight on Tom and his work.

When doing research for the site, I often came upon posts about Tom, especially in November, around the anniversary of his death.  Tom died from AIDS-related pneumonia in November 1994, just five days from his 41st birthday.  Beyond his successful acting career in the 1980's,  Tom's battle with AIDS is an important part of his life and legacy.

Tom was one of just a few actors to come out and discuss his struggles living with HIV and AIDS in the early 90's.  In an then unprecedented move,  Tom appeared on Entertainment Tonight in February of 1994 sharing that he was gay, that he had AIDS, and that he was in need of help.  Many in the industry turned away, but others offered support. After his death later that year, a non-profit foundation was created by his partner and some of his friends as a tribute to Tom.  The Tom Villard Foundation  engaged local businesses to provide free goods and services for community members living with AIDS.

We Got It Made (1983)

A couple of years ago, when profiling Tom's We Got It Made co-star Matt McCoy, (HERE:) I again thought of Tom, and posting about his work on the site. This time, I began collecting images and started putting something together.  It remained however in my draft folder.  I wanted to do something a little different than others had done, and not just a mirror of other tributes and his page on Wikipedia.

McCoy and Villard

A couple of months ago, I was given another, and my final, sign that I needed to feature Tom on the site.  I was watching TCM's tribute to Grease 2, and saw that Tom's name appeared in the credits.  I never really watched Grease 2 all the way through, but the commentary on TCM made it seem much better than I'd remembered... Tom was credited simply as 'Boy Greaser' but that was enough to have me heading to Google to take a deeper dive.

The Golden Girls

The Trouble With Dick (1987)

'Sci-Fi author is plagued by his publisher's demands to add more sex to his new novel, sexual advances of his girl's sexy best friend and her daughter and hallucinations in which the novel's hero faces desert parasites and alien vixens.'

I found what I was looking for with Tom's appearance in the 1987 sci fi comedy, The Trouble With Dick.  The film wasn't great, but it did hold my interest.  It moves back and forth between Tom's character and the characters in his novel.  One of Tom's co-stars is Susan Dey from LA Law and The Partridge Family.

The Trouble with Dick features Tom's one and only 'nude' scene.  Nude is in quotes, as you don't really get to see much.  The editing and lighting is purposely horrible and works over-time to ensure the viewer see's as little as possible.  Still, it was worth checking out.  Tom is 'nude' is three or four different scenes.  You do get a bit of butt crack when he gets out of bed in one scene, and more butt when he opens his bedroom door without his pajama bottoms in another.  Again, the editing and lighting makes it hard to see much, but I added videos of two of the scenes.  I think you see more in the video than the low quality caps that I made.

Timing really is everything.  If I had posted on Tom back when I first thought to, I most likely would have missed on discovering this little known film, and his only nude scene.  Hope those of you who weren't familiar with Tom's work learned a little about the man and his life.  Hope those who were familiar with Tom, maybe discovered this film and Tom's only nude scenes.
