About Last Night...

Since I posted so many stories on the weekend before the Oscars, I thought I should offer my thoughts on the show itself.  The last few years, I've actually barely watched, following on Twitter, and checking in when there's buzz over a certain award or performance.  This year, I actually watched all the way through.  I thought Jimmy Kimmel did a decent job, and although I may be the only one, I laughed out loud when Kimmel asked Malala about Harry Styles, Chris Pine and spit-gate.

One of my favorite moments of the night happened as much on-line as it did on the screen.  There was a universal unison thirsting when Paul Rogers won for film editing for Everything Everywhere All at Once.  It wasn't just that Rogers is incredibly  hot, it was also his great speech, including using the phrase 'sexy people' describing his co-workers the directing team of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

I wish I could share some shirtless shots of Rogers, but his Instagram page is as sweet as he appeared on stage when he won.  As thirsty as many of us were, there were no thirst traps on his page, in fact I could hardly find any shots of Rogers by himself.  Oh his picture is there, a lot, but his handsome face is usually snuggled next to his beautiful wife on one of his children.  Given that this was only his second editing job, I look forward to what he creates in the future.

In addition to Rogers and the Daniel's, I was generally pleased with all the winners.  I enjoyed The Fabelmans, and though the acting in The Whale was great, but Everything, Everywhere All At Once really deserved the prize.  I was also thrilled to see Sarah Polley win for adapted screenplay over some of the bigger budget films.

As for the musical numbers, for me, none came close to the brilliance of Naatu Naatu from RRR.  I was actually pretty underwhelmed by Rihanna and Lady Gaga.  I know many called Gaga's performance stripped down, but I thought it was a bit contrived.  When one changes into a costume for a performance, it's called a costume.  Given Gaga arrived in full make-up and a gown, it seemed sort of silly to wipe it all off simply to appear more 'raw'.  Gaga has given some incredible Oscar performances, but for me, this wasn't one of them.

'Dad!'

I know I'm not the only who noticed the hot dad in the red speedos in the new Sotyktu.  I know, as when I was starting to search for the piece, there were many posts on social media from others thirsting over the commercial cutie.

I think the ad is so popular as it's REALLY rare these guys to actually see an actor on television or in movies donning the nylon and spandex.  It used to be common to see actor in TV shows, soap operas and movies in speedos, but today, even with murders, rapes and decapitations aired constantly, a man in a speedo calls for the smelling salts for many conservative viewers.  Kudos to the company, and the actor, for bucking that trend.  I searched, but couldn't find the actors name, if anyone knows, let me know!

Update:  Thanks to Billydee from DC who pointed me towards a tread on Twitter which identified the  actor as Juan Carlos Liendo

An Extra Peek.... Eddie by Peek Physique

'He was out of his clothes in no time and pointing at the ceiling.'

Last month, I did a Quaternate piece featuring the work of photographer Tom from Peek Physique. (HERE:)  In the piece, I shared that I had lost contact with Tom and that I wondered what happened to him as his Model Mayhem page had disappeared.  Turns out, he was there all the time.  Tom got in touch I after I posted the Quaternate piece and shared he is still on Model Mayhem but changed his  professional credit a couple of years ago.  Peek Physique is now credited on MM as Maleshooter.

It was great to hear from Tom and find out that he was ok, and still passionate about photography.  Tom shared that his time behind the lens did get sidetracked however, both due to the pandemic, and with the increased challenges involved with difficulty with finding models to work with.

'It's harder to find models. I used to put up flyers at my alma mater, now you need permission to post anything there.. I used to post "Models Wanted" on Craigslist, now they don't let you do that. About all we have is Model Mayhem, and my town gets about one new model willing to do nudity every five years or so.'

In addition, Tom noted what many other photographers have shared with me over the last few years.  With everyone having their own phone, so many models who want nudes to post on-line, end up deciding they'll skip the process of working with a photographer, and just take the shots themselves.
Although this has certainly increased the number of guys with nude on-line, it also decreased the creativity and unique shoots and themes so many of us love to see in images of the male form.

'People also seem more conservative, especially where I live. My town ranks #111 in US city population and we will never have a naked bike ride around here, that's for sure. And I've gotten older. Is it weird for a senior citizen to be photographing naked young men? Not if you've managed to become famous for doing that, but yeah, if you're just Joe Blow doing it as a hobby. '

The last shoot that Tom did was in the summer of 2020, just as the pandemic was really dominating how we lived, how we worked, and how we interacted with others.  Most of the photographers I've featured took a pause for part of 2020, then returned trying to follow the set protocols as closely as possible.  This was difficult for everyone, and offered some unique challenges to model and photographers shooting nudes.

After being cooped for months from Covid, Tom was itching to get creative and to do another shoot.  I again advertised on Craigslist, right before they tightened t heir polices on what you could advertise for.  Tom made it clear he was looking for a model to pose full nude.  This was the last time Tom was able to submit such as ad as the next time he tried, it was rejected with his payment quickly refunded.

Normally, Tom doesn't pay for the models he shoots, but works TFP, (time for print) providing models with images for their portfolio.  With this shoot however, Tom wanted to pay, especially given all the financial struggles many were going through during the pandemic.  After Eddie was on board, a time was set and Tom decided to rent a model for the shoot.

'Eddie and I both arrived in masks and tried to stay six feet away as much as we possibly could.  Eddie was out of his clothes in no time and pointing at the ceiling, if you know what I mean. It's always nice (and kind of rare) to work with a model who is open with their nudity and sexuality. I didn't think to do any pics of him wearing a mask, but I should have. It's kind of interesting when a guy is wearing nothing but a mask.'
