Brian Kerwin: Teen Beat

It was through old teen magazines that I was first introduced to actor Brian Kerwin.  I've written before, that my parents loved to go to flea markets on the weekends.  My only interest, was buying old magazines, especially TV and movie magazines featuring my favorite celebrities.  The fact that many were filled with images of shirtless hunks, was an added bonus.

It was through these flea market bargains that I was first introduced to Kerwin.  I was a little young to remember or watch Kerwin in The Misadventure of Sherriff Lobo, it was a little before my time. I did however, see shirtless promotional images and pin-ups of Kerwin, and his many, (many) other projects in my magazine finds.

I don't know how many times I wished I'd saved those flea market purchases.  Three were so many issues, and so many images, I would have scanned for FH.  Unfortunately, I, (or my mother) threw them out before I even knew what a scanner was.

I've found a few on-line, but as you can see, even with my enlarging, the quality is not great.  But.. these few images should give you an indication of the stimulus that inspired my crush on Mr. Kerwin.

Brian Kerwin: ACTORS & Skin

As I stated above, it was within the pages of TV and movie magazines that I first crushed over actor Brian Kerwin.  I loved his great face and wavy blond hair and the occasional shirtless shot in some of the articles that I found.  It was only later, I began to see him pop up in movies and television shows.

I remember catching Kerwin in many of his TV appearances including his stints on Frasier, Desperate Housewives, The West Wing and as Jackie's boyfriend on Roseanne.  Kerwin began acting professionally in 1977 and has worked steadily in both film and on television since.

Although Kerwin may not be a big star, he really has one of the most successful careers of any actor of his generation.   He's appeared in many huge films and worked with some of the industries biggest stars.  Kerwin has shared the screen with high profile actors including; Sally field, Sissy Spacek, Michelle Pfieffer, Robin Williams to name just a few.

In between roles in big screen hits, with big star power, Kerwin went back and forth from film to television with ease.  He might be in a huge box office hit one month, then boarding an episode of The Love Boat the next.   His ability to stand out, while easily slide into almost any role in any genre is one of the reasons for his success and longevity.

NBC: Proud As A Peacock

Oh how I wish there were more shots of Kerwin in his red speedo while appearing on those celebrity sports competitions in the 1980's.  Thankfully, there are a few of them out there.  Some of them, including Kerwin's appearances, are also on Youtube.

Sadly, Kerwin never bared all for a Playgirl Pictorial, he just appeared on the cover with Sally Field for an 1986 issue.  You can check out the skin scenes I did find in the two posts below.

Brian Kerwin: Actors & (Television) SKIN

'When a waitress learns about a boat that sunk with millions of gold, she and two others dive into water to find it.'

I have yet to see the 1984 television movie Wet Gold, but I do remember seeing the many promotional shots in the old magazines I used to buy.  I think it may have been shirtless shots from the film, that first introduced me to actor Brian Kerwin.

Brooke Shields brought attention to the TV movie, but I'm guessing Brian Kerwin, and co-star, the sexy hairy chested Tom Byrd, that help bring in viewers.   I know I saw a poor quality version on Youtube awhile ago, but I didn't watch.  For this flick, you need an HD version, with the sound down, to really appreciate the scenery.

The Love Boat

The an 1981 episode of The Love Boat, Kerwin is featured in The Incredible Hunk, one of the episodes three stories.  Kerwin plays Hank, someone cruise director Julie books to entertain.  She doesn't know however that he moonlights as a stripper.  Given the year, it's sort of surprising to see Kerwin in a tiny silver sparkling speedo.

Brian Kerwin: Actors & SKIN

Despite his extensive acting resume, Brian Kerwin hasn't really had many on-screen nude scenes.  There are a couple however, worth taking note of.

'Arnold is a gay man working as drag queen in 1971 NYC. He meets a handsome bisexual man.'

Although Kerwin doesn't have a nude scene in 1988's Torch Song Trilogy, he does share some love scenes with both Harvey Fierstein and Matthew Broderick.  Based on Fierstein's play, Kerwin plays Ed in the film, a bisexual teacher, who eventually leaves Arnold (Fierstein) for a woman.

Hometown U.S.A (1979)

Three 1950s teenagers drive around, hang out, listen to music and flirt with girls.

Kerwin had his first nude scene, and his first role in a feature film in 1979's Hometown U.S.A.  In the American Graffiti knock off, Kerwin puts on his James Dean, and his red leather jacket, to play T. J. Swackhammer. I think this may be the actors only actual nude scene as his thrusting butt is actually shown in the same frame as his beautiful face.

Murphy's Romance (1985)

' Emma moves to a ranch with her son after a divorce and befriends the older Murphy, but things turn complicated when her ex shows up.'

Kerwin plays Bobby, Sally Field's ex in the 1985 romantic comedy Murphy's Romance. Although Kerwin has several shirtless scenes in flick, given the way it is filmed, I always wondered if the butt heading into the shower was his.  Either way, it perfectly pert and enjoyable to check out.
