The Work Of Ev Dylan

Above: DW Chase by Ev Dylan

With the exception of Hans Fahrmeyer(Sunday's With Hans) and Marlen Boro (The Gentlemen of Marlen Boro) who have had weekly features, and Chris Teel who has been a regular contributor, I think Ev Dylan's work has appeared on FH more than any other. The reason is simple, I love Ev's work. Once a artist is featured on FH, they are welcome anytime! Every photographer who I choose to feature on FH is chosen because of a different quality that speaks to me in their work. Every time I profile Ev's work I attempt to put into words why I love his work. I am not sure I ever said it very well.

If you check out FH on a regular basis you know some of my favorite shots are subtle. Sexy, erotic and beautiful but subtle. Work that hits you over the head, that is loud, that is uncreative does little for me. Sometimes showing less says so much more. A shot of a naked model is of little interest to me without a creative photographer, and a great photographer needs a creative and talented model. Ev Dylan's work is based in a subtle emotional, respectful and sensual foundation. It's sensibility speaks to me. No matter what the location, who the model is, what the set up is, Ev's eye always captures something worth spending time with.

Today I am looking back on some of the profiles I have done of Ev's work. Beginning with my first post featuring DW Chase and also a brand new feature with model Mark Pett please enjoy the work of Ev Dylan.

Mark Pett by Ev Dylan

'Mark rocks every shoot... Period.'
-Ev Dylan-

20 year old Mark Pett says that working with Ev Dylan has molded him into the model he is today. Mark started modeling two years ago when he was 18. A friend in Mark's in his high school algebra class suggested he look into modeling. Mark says that initially he laughed her off. In his first semester in college, a friend, was pledging for the same fraternity as Mark had a photo shoot scheduled in Dallas. Mark, and 2 other friends joined him on a weekend road trip to the shoot.

'The photographer stopped during the shoot for a wardrobe change, he looked at me and asked if I wanted to shoot as well. I hesitated because I felt that I was way too skinny compared to the models he normally shot. He told me I should shoot with him or I am gonna go home that night and regret saying no. So I took some shots for him with literally the clothes I had on (jeans, sweater, and flip flops) and I got the results back in a few days and I absolutely loved them! From that moment on I knew I had to do this.'

Mark says that the feeling he gets when in front of the camera is something he can't fully describe. 'It just feels like I'm mighty, confident, and in total control of my destiny.' Mark plans to continue to follow this destiny as far as it takes him and hopes to make his mark in the fashion industry. Ev and Mark have worked together many times and have created many different and incredible looks for Mark's portfolio. Mark says he feels blessed to have connected with Ev, not just because he is an amazing photographer but because Mark says he was lucky enough to have also met an amazing friend in the process.

'Working with Ev is every models dream. I remember when I did my very first underwear shoot and it was with Ev and I was totally nervous out of my mind. All that totally flew out of the window within the first few minutes of working with him. He made me feel in control, comfortable, asked for my input with posing, and it really came through in our work. It just felt so natural and when I looked at our photos that we shot together I could not believe it was me. It was like I was looking at a completely different person.'
-Mark Pett-

'Working with Mark as a new model several years ago was a responsibility I took very seriously. I know how much modeling means to him and at well over 6' tall, Mark has great potential. As with many of my models, I have enjoyed collaborating with Mark so much that we have shot more than a half dozen times, and I consider him now to be a good friend.'

DW CHASE: The Preeminent

Above: DW's first shoot with Ev in Palm Springs, 2008.

It was about a year and a half ago that I first saw shots of 27 year old Texan DW Chase. At the time I did not know the shots were from Ev Dylan but I did know there was something very special about the model and the work. DW has an amazing body, lean and strong, perfect for both fashion and fitness. His face, personality and the blond curls (now shorter) make him look right at home anywhere EV and his camera shoot him. Corn fields in Kansas, the Mojave Desert or the beaches of Australia. It is DW's face, sexy, intense which becomes the emotional focus of every shot he is in.

Ev and DW have have shot many times in so many different locations. DW is also graces the cover of Ev's first book, LUST, which was released last fall. DW impresses me with the care and work he puts into his career. His investment in the work, those he works with and those who enjoy his work. You can see this caring in every post and story he shares on his fantastic blog. DW's blog is not just a showcase for his work, it is a journal of his career, the ups, the downs, the success's and rejections. Since DW and Ev have collaborated so many times together there are many great stories of their work together.

The power of the work, and their working relationship is exceptionally clear in DW's account of their first shoot together. DW recounts that he had pretty much decided to quit modeling and that he intended this shoot with Ev to be his last modeling shoot altogether. The fact that DW and Ev have continued to shoot so many times sort of says it all...

When profiling specific shoots I try when I can to get the perspective of both the photographer and the model. I missed this step the first time I posted, but DW was great to share his thoughts on working with Ev for this post.

'In many ways I owe any success I have in the modeling world to photographer Ev Dylan. His ability to see my potential when others could not or would not gave me the chance I needed. His very high standards with models have now made me picky with whom I work with.'

The Model: DW Chase

Curiosity killed the cat, but it also brought DW Chase to modeling. This 26 year old model from Houston has been modeling for the past 7 years. DW really enjoys working with the photographer to design and plan the concepts whether its location, ideas or his hairstyles.

Although DW loves to model, his passion is actually reviewing Films. (My dream job as well). Dustin's first film review would be written in 1997 (Boys Don't Cry). Only five years later he would be introduced to world famous film critic Roger Ebert. DW got his bachelors degree in Mass Communication. Writing controversial articles for the college paper The Blue Banner and reporting for the communication departments broadcast program, he landed an exclusive interview with Oscar nominee Jennifer Tilly at the Asheville Film Festival. Check out DW's film review site HERE:

Here DW is shot by the great Ev Dylan. DW is one of Ev's favorite models to work with and the two of collaborated on several occasions. Check out more at Ev's site HERE:
