Nudist Jeff: A Primal Thing

'Whenever someone says I’ve inspired them to try nudism, and they loved it, that’s the best feedback I can get. That’s the reason I post online, so it’s heart warming to know that I’ve been able to make that difference to people.'

Did you initially share with anyone, a friend or family?
Just my partner at the time. It wasn’t until years later that I would “come out” as a nudist.

When did you share with your family and friends?
When I was 29 I went to my first nude beach, and it was a transformative experience. At that point I decided I wanted more than just being naked privately at home. Shortly after I told my family about the experience.

What were their reactions?
They were quite amused, because they knew how shy about nudity I was as a teenager, and I used to kick up a stink if they were naked in front of me. But they were good-natured about it, and very accepting. It’s 4 years later now, and we’ve gradually gotten to the point where the family are happy for me to be naked around them, and no one really cares. It’s pretty normal at family gatherings for me to be naked while everyone else is clothed.

Has there been any location that wasn't very pleasant?
There’s been a few hikes that weren’t very nice. I usually find places on google maps to explore, but you can’t really tell everything about a place from a satellite view. There was one place that I had to climb up a really steep hill through dense scrub. I put my clothes back on for that so I wouldn’t get scratched up too much.

Any odd/embarrassing stories?
I’m not embarrassed to be nude, so I can’t say I’ve had any embarrassing stories. My most interesting story is when I was out hiking once on a remote stretch of coast, I was surprised to encounter another person, and even more surprised when I got closer and saw that he was naked too. We had a chat for about 20 minutes. He said he also enjoyed finding remote locations to go skinny dipping.

Do you have a 'standard' reply when running into clothed strangers?
I used to just say “hi” although these days I only hike nude where I know I won’t run into strangers (see answer to next question). I basically acted the same as if I was wearing clothes, because I wanted to send the message that me being naked wasn’t a big deal, and that naked people shouldn’t be treated any differently to clothed people.

Any brushes with the law?
Yeah, I foolishly took my clothes off in the carpark of a nude beach once instead of waiting until I had gotten onto the beach. A woman reported me and I had to got to court and got fined. It was a really stressful process that took several months, and since then I’ve been a lot more careful about where I go naked. It’s really sad, but I hope in time society’s attitudes to nudity will relax, and we can change the law to recognise that nudity in and of itself isn’t an indecent act.

What inspired you to post your first nude online?
I’d gotten a lot more into nudism after divorcing my ex-husband. It was a time in life where I was exploring who I was, trying new things, and generally being a bit more uninhibited. Nudism was such an important part of my life at the time, so it came naturally to want to share it.  I’d recently left a 10 year relationship after being cheated on. I felt like if I could survive that and come out a stronger person, people disapproving of me posting nudes on the internet wasn’t going to hurt me.

Have you done other nude activities, stripping, modeling for an artist?
I’ve been modelling for artists for 3 years. I started as a way to build my confidence with being nude around other people. It’s also been a big influence on my nude photography, making my posing more interesting and varied. I’ve never tried stripping, and I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable using my nudity in such an overtly sexual way outside of my relationship.

If money wasn't an issue, do you have a dream nude destination?
I’ve not been outside of Australia. The airfares are exorbitant, and I live a fairly simple, frugal lifestyle. I do a lot of camping though, and look for quiet, isolated places where I can camp in the nude. I guess outside of Australia it would have to be Cap d’Adge in France. There’s a whole naturist village, so you can even walk down the street and do your shopping in the nude. It’s kind of a nude utopia that would be quite interesting to experience.

Have you dabbled at all with nudity in clothed and crowed places?
I used to. Not in towns or anything, but on beaches that weren’t designated as clothing optional, or remote hiking trails where I might run into a few people. Now I’m a bit more aware of the legal risks I stick to safer places.

Do you take most of your own images?
Yes, I’ve gotten pretty good at framing up a photo with a tripod, and visualizing how I’m going to fit into the photo. Then I take my position and activate the phone camera with a hand gesture.

What is the mind, body, spiritual connection you personally experience through nudism?
I wouldn’t say I’m a particularly spiritual person, but I do feel a sense of rightness being naked in nature. It feels like how I’m supposed to be. I think it’s a primal thing. After all, clothes are a recent invention, and we went for hundreds of thousands of years without them. I think it’s just part of our nature to prefer being naked, but our culture beats it out of us as children and teaches us to be ashamed. Nudism gives us a way to unlearn that shame and reconnect with something inside ourselves.

It's always interesting seeing who is making their Battle (ie speedo) debut in an episode of Battle of the Network Stars.   It seemed to be mandatory, that if you were in the swimming comp, you wore a speedo.  I think the stars may have had a choice for other events, but if you're swimming, you're wearing your budgie smugglers.  Some of the male celebrities tried to cover their packages as much as possible, and wrapping themselves in a towel when not in action. Others however, let it all hang out.

It's also interesting, looking back, how many celebrities switched teams.  William Devane, who I think is making his Battle debut, is the captain for the NBC team.  Devane was starring in the short-lived 1980 series of From Here To Eternity.  A few years later, Devane would return on the CBS team, this time co-starring on Knots Landing.  Devane was never considered a 'hunk', but looked hotter than usual when shirtless.

For this installment, the director again decided not to do the 'speedo parade' at the beginning of the swimming competition.  They did however, introduce all of the stars, and many were in their suits, preparing to dive in.  Sadly, they didn't do the long body shots they often did in previous shots.  I would have loved to have seen a longer shot of man, especially WKRP's Gary Sandy.
