Seasonal Sightings:

Blast From The Past: Clayton Norcross

I've never really been an avid soap opera watcher, but over the years, I have watched a few different soaps in spurts.  It started with my mother.  I'd arrive home after school, drop my book bag, make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  Then, I'd head into the TV room to tell mom about my day, only during the many commercials of course, while she watched Another World.

Thanks to a Jr. High School girlfriend, I watched a little of The Young and the Restless and Santa Barbara.  Thanks to working night shifts, and a co-worker who brought in her VHS recordings, I caught some of Days of our Lives.   Even today, when I'm home sick, or catch a few minutes of one that's still airing, I can pick right back up. With so many actors and characters that have been there for decades, it's easy to jump back in.

One soap I pretty sure I never watched an entire episode of was The Bold and the Beautiful.  Sure, I've seen a few minutes here and there when changing channels, but I was never really drawn to the show.  Maybe it was the name, even for me, it's a bit much...  I have however, caught some scenes on Youtube, especially when someone on a forum links to an old scene (like this one)  where a shirtless Clayton Norcross and a speedo wearing Ronn Moss are hanging out by the pool.

Was there ever a more 'soapy' name for a character than Thorne?  I also don't think there were ever a pair of hot, chiseled faced actors playing siblings on a soap.  Norcross played Thorne to Ross' brother Ridge when the soap first premiered in 1987.  After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications and Film Production from San Diego State University., Norcross began working as a male model in the early 1980's.  It wasn't long before his beautifully sculpted face began appearing on television and in films.

I wasn't aware until recently, thanks to a poster on DreamCap, that Norcross also dipped his toe into the world of softcore flicks in the 80's and 90's.  With titles like Sky High, Intimate Encounters, and two flicks ending with the word Passion, (both Fatal and Sheer) you'd think there'd be a long resume of nude scenes.  Sadly the list is not that long, but there are a couple of scenes worth taking a closer look at.  Check them out on the NEXT PAGE HERE:

Norcross continues to act, both in film, on television and on stage.   He's also written a screenplay he hopes to get made.  When not in front of the camera, Norcross devotes his time to environmental and conversation causes and organizations.

Norcross' face is still beautifully sculpted, and he also still models. The shot below is from his current modeling portfolio.

Quaternate: The Male Image

As a photographer, my first love, my passion was always to explore stories, themes and vulnerabilities of men.

As photographer Joe Mazza states on his website, so much of the male persona has been about hiding vulnerabilities and emotions.  There so much talk today about how men and boys are being ignored, but I argue it's just the opposite.  For decades, boys have been taught not to cry, not to be weak, not to share how they're feeling.  Sadly, they've been taught by very loud, and very aggressive teachers.

You rarely hear about a violent crime being committed by writers, poets or artists.  Sure there are exceptions, but artists are more likely to be harder on themselves than others.  Men able to be venerable, and able to share their feeling through discussion or through their art, are for more more likely to be emotionally healthy.  We have not been ignoring our boys, we've just hired and supported the wrong kind of teachers.

Stories, themes and vulnerabilities are also three of the key ingredients that drive FH.  Readers know I'm not satisfied just posting great photos, but to explore the story of their creation. I think that's one of the reasons I love featuring the work of The Male Image.  Joe captures the male form in both visually dramatic moments, as well as small, split seconds of everyday life.  Not only does each shoot tell a story, but each individual image as well.
