Taking A Back Seat

Scream, Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street

'Fred Krueger! He's inside me, and he wants to take me again!'
Jesse Walsh

Growing up, I'd never seen any of the Nightmare on Elm Street films.  In 2015 however, I made up for it.  That Halloween, following the death of writer and direct Wes Craven, I created the theme 'Constant Craven' and spotlighted many of Craven's films. (see links below) The Nightmare series was certainly the star, especially the second film, Freddy's Revenge.

I was fascinated by the film, and infatuated with it's stars Mark Patton and Robert Rusler and did a series of pieces on each of the films actors.  They often mention the films gay 'subtext' and maybe that was so when the film was originally released back in 1985.  Watching it in 2015 however, there was nothing subtle at all about the film, nor it's intention.

Thanks to a FH reader, I was recently encouraged to find a copy of the documentary Scream, Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street.  The film's goal was to set the record straight about the controversial sequel which ended Mark Patton’s acting career, just as it was about to begin. I hadn't heard the back story of the backlash on Patton, and the emotional toll it took on the young actor.

Rusler and Patton

Salute to Wes Craven

'Each new city unwraps a chapter from his life that is met with equal parts joyful and bittersweet detail, as he attempts to make peace with his past and embrace his legacy as cinema’s first male “scream queen.” Scream Queen also finds Patton confronting Freddy’s Revenge cast and crew for the first time, including co-stars Robert Rusler, Kim Myers and Clu Gulager, as well as Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund.'

I was fascinated to see Patton confront screenwriter David Chaskin, and learning how Chaskin not only denied writing anything gay oriented, but blamed people viewing the film that way due to Mark's portrayal.  The 'subtext' wasn't in Mark's acting, it was on the page, and how so many of those scenes, (the dance, the tighty whities, the biker bar, the leather chaps) were directed by Jack Sholder.

It was interesting to hear Patton describe how the film impacted his life, and although painful for him, I enjoyed learning more about him, including his relationship with Dallas actor Timothy Patrick Murphy.  No matter how times we're reminded, it's always gut wrenching to hear stories of the past, and how far we really have come.  Being a actor who was gay, especially during the height of the Aids crisis in 80's, was full of landmines which not everyone was successfully able to maneuver through.

Cleared for Approach: Yves by macpics

'I just approached him because I liked his look.'

Whenever I'm featuring a shoot, I'm always curious with how a artist and model connected.  Today, in most cases, the nexus is virtual.  Photographers and models see, and often research each others work through their websites and social media pages.

As common as this is become, it's really been only the last seven to ten years that connecting through social media sites has become the main source of connection and communication.  Although most of us have been on-line for over two decades, it was really the rise of social media sites that allowed professional connecting to be so uncomplicated.

Given FH is rooted in story, I love exploring shoots which occurred when connecting was a little more risky and time-consuming.  Before the internet, photographers and models often used newspaper ads and magazine classifieds to get creatively connect.  In many ways, this required a little more dedication, as it could take weeks, even months, to connect and decide to work together.  I'm not sure everyone shooting today, would have had the patience to put in the time and energy which was required.

There was also an greater degree of risk.   Connecting on-line, or even through a classifieds, has a certain degree of risk, but in both cases, at least each party is aware of the goals and motives, (at least the stated ones...) of the other party involved.  There was another method, maybe even more common, for artists to find models.  They walked up and asked them.

I love hearing stories of photographers who used to, (or still do) meet their models in public, spontaneously and face to face.  I've shared many stories of photographers who simply approached a good looking guy they saw running in the park, working out at the gym, or just walking down the street.  It has always surprised me, how many of these encounters have led to a nude photo shoot with a virtual stranger.

This is exactly how the engaging Yves ended up working with Ian from macpics.  This shoot isn't actually that old, it took place in the 2000's, but risk and nerves have never stopped Ian from approaching a hot guy that he's interested in shooting.  There's a slew of old jokes that begin with 'A guy walked into a bar', and the guy in this case, was Yves.

The bar was near Ian's home in Melbourne, Australia, but the guy who walked in wasn't an Aussie. Yves was traveling the globe, far from his home in Montreal, Canada.  Ian had never met Yves before, and had no idea whether he'd yes to modeling, but Yves adorable smile, his fit, tight body and his sexy French accent made it impossible for Ian not to give it try.

'I fell in love with his accent immediately. He was so charming with a great sense of humour.'

As you can see, Yves said yes.  They ended up shooting at the house of one of Ian's friends, and Yves made great use of the headphones that were laying around, and laying around himself, so sensually on Ian's friend's furniture. Yves eventually ended up in the shower, and to join him there, check out PAGE 2 HERE:

Too Hot (& Harry) To Handle

'A Four Week Sexcation!'

I haven't yet seen Netflix's Too Hot To Handle, but I've certainly read about the show's premise, and noticed images of Harry Jowsey, one of the show's hot contestants. Too Hot To Handle takes 10 hot singles who are notorious commitment-phobes when it comes to relationships, and it puts them in an island villa together for what they think is going to be a four week sexcation. But when they get there, they're told there's prize money involved, and it depends on all of them remaining abstinent for the four week retreat.

After seeing a shot of Harry on the sidebar of the TVTattle website, I started looked for more of the hot guy with the sexy smile. It didn't take very long to discover a bit more of Harry, both his smile, and on one of my favorite sites to regularly visits. Check out more of Harry on Casperfan HERE:

Now, given I've yet to see the show, I have no idea if Harry is as sweet as he appears, or a total douche. I'll let you know once I've checked it out....
