Andrew Bowman: Stamen

Stamen: The male reproductive part of a flower.
In all but a few extant angiosperms, the stamen consists of a long slender stalk, the filament, with a two-lobed anther at the tip. The anther consists of four saclike structures (microsporangia) that produce pollen for pollination.

I first featured the work of photographer Andrew Bowman over a decade ago.  In that first piece from 2012, the focus was on Andrew's work with model Lee Mayson. (HERE:)   The piece began spotlighting some of Lee's favorite images from a variety of photographers. I was so taken with Lee's work with Andrew however, that I chose to focus solely on Andrew's images and his work with Lee.

Amongst the many images that Lee sent on were a few of him holding a colorful bouquet of flowers.  I chose one of them for the pic of the day.  Over the next few years, I noticed that Andrew incorporated flowers, both single stems and bouquets in many of his shoots, and with many of his models.

Lee Mayson:

It wasn't long before I began asking Andrew about featuring specific flowers, and specific models and images, for themed pieces nd holiday posts on the site.  It wasn't however, until a few years ago, that I discovered the how the theme first came about.

'The flowers began as a random choice early in Andrew's career as a way of providing a little penis privacy. Many models want to keep their junk in the trunk, and some penis's as we know, aren't always a model's most attractive asset.'

'The modesty bouquet became routine on fitness shoots, and instead of a model using their hand cup their penis, the flowers provided a pop of color and a more interesting visual to the shots.'

As you can see, Andrew expanded his use of the flowers with many of his models, even those not shy with exposing their root and stems to the light, and to the world.  Many of the models featured in this piece were spotlighted in previous post of their own.  Check out more of Andrew's work on FH HERE:
