I live next to a University town, meaning the end of August and the first few week of September are really loud, and really busy. Students returning means the stores are busier, the streets are busier, and the police are busier. Although things tend to calm by October, September has pledge week, meaning frat parties, street parties and plenty of alcohol infused incidents, accidents and unplanned hook-ups.
Pledge week can also be a lot of fun. I remember when I started University, that in addition to the parties, I went to many 'meet and greets' and cultural nights, all which provided the opportunity to meet, and greet new people. I was on the welcoming committee for foreign students, meaning I set up many dates for Saturday's, to give tours around the town and places they needed to be aware of.
Of course, as great as that all is, the main event for most students, especially those living on their own for the first time, is the big parties. No college or university party is complete without beer, and a friendly, but competitive game of beer pong.
