Chuck Buddies

'How much wood would a woodchuck suck if a woodchuck could suck wood?'

I've been visually celebrating the holidays with images of the male form almost since the site began.  It wasn't until 2019 however, that I first included Groundhog Day.  Groundhog Day isn't really a holiday,  nothing is closed, and there aren't any big Groundhog Day family meals, not that I know of anyway.  But... like Valentines and Halloween, it's a day to mark a specific day on the calendar.

Groundhog Day is said to have was influenced by the Christian holiday of Candlemas which takes place on February 2nd. The date commemorates Mary going to the temple, 40 days after the birth Jesus. Like other holidays, it's a celebration of light, and the length of sunlight expanding with the beginning of the end of winter.   This formed the connection with light and whether we see the Groundhog's shadow.

When I decided to feature Groundhog Day on the site, I first went to photographer Tom Nakielski.  We had the idea to incorporate a randy rodent, who was so excited for spring, he couldn't resist ripping the clothes off of model Michael. (HERE:)  Since then, Tom shot the manhandling Marmota monax with several other nervous male models.

It's no wonder why they were nervous... Posing fully naked with a mammal with 18 chewing teeth, and with shovel-like claws that can borrow down up to sixty feet comes with risks. Add to that, they've been dormant, hibernating since late October, you have one ravenous rodent.  Although Groundhogs are primarily herbivores, they do like an occasional munch of meat.

Despite the risks, Luke G was fearless when it came to posing with the horny hog.  Even with the risk of a little wood sucking from the woodchuck, Luke stripped down and got the job done.  Luke originally thought they might pose outside, and try to capture a little light and shadow, but after sleeping in hole outside the last few months, this wood sucking diva insisted on posing inside, in a warm studio.

Luke shares that inside shoot went well, and he was basically unscathed during the shooting process.  When I probed further, asking if there were any attempted sucking of wood or crevice burrowing, Luke choose to keep silent.  His only response was to quote his motto that whatever happens during a shoot, stays in the shoot.  I'll leave it to FH readers to decide how far our furry friend tried to go...
