Prick

'Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, Too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like thorn.'
William Shakespeare, Romeo & Juliet

When we're young, we innocently succumb to temptation.  We grab everything that looks appetizing, not realizing that at some point, there will be ramifications.  It's only when we're older, we understand that almost everything we covet and desire, comes with consequences.  Satisfying things often come with concessions and compromise, and beautiful things, are adjoined with thorns.

The thorns, and the accompanying prick and pain, can't really be avoided, not if you want to enjoy the beauty of the rose.  Most of us however, eventually learn how to either avoid the pricks, or at least finally accept the fact, they're apart of of the process.  The alternative is to avoid beauty and desires all together, and a life without beauty, and the odd prick or two, isn't really a life at all.

I love this set of Jaime, and the use and placement of the Valentine rose.  I didn't ask Tom, (TR Pics) who inserted the stem into it's voluptuous vase, but I'm guessing, I'm hoping, the thorns were safely removed beforehand.
