'Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun:'
Every Halloween, as costumes decisions start to get made, a familiar question often arises. What is the difference between a Ghost and A Ghoul? There are many different depictions of Ghosts in film and on TV, from the sweet and friendly Casper, the sexy Patrick Swayze, the evil spirits that haunt and kill, not to mention those Ghosts of the past, present and future. Ghosts are considered to be the souls of the dead that when visualized appear as spirits in evanescent forms.
Since Ghosts take on the souls of the dead, they also take on the essence of the person who's body was once pumping with blood and life. Therefore they are capable of kindness, caring, sadness and love. A Ghost's emotions are often dictated by their cause of death and given so many bodies leave the earth in such painful and brutal ways, there are many Ghosts who's eternity is filled with revenge and unresolved anger.
Ghoul's (Arabic: الغول, al-ghuûl) however, are far more malevolent, they are pure evil. It's unlikely you'll ever find a friendly Ghoul as they exist only to cause carnage. Ghouls are creatures of the flesh, eating both stolen corpses and when they have the opportunity, lost and abandoned children.
Ghouls seize their prey, devouring every organ, every bit of flesh, leaving only the victims bones as evidence of their frenzied feast.
'The gruesome ghoul, the grisly ghoul,
without the slightest noise
waits patiently beside the school
to feast on girls and boys'
Jack Prelutsky
'Its always fun to collaborate with Tom. We really wanted to capture the mood of the holidays coming ahead! I did do my own makeup for this shoot. Its kind of like Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas.'
Over the last couple of years, Light On Studio's Tom Nakielski and model Hansel Wellington have collaborated on some of FH's most memorable holiday shoots. We've seen a naked Hazel with his horn of plenty on Thanksgiving, his long lickable candy cane at Christmas and his bushy little bunny this past Easter.
'Hansel was very creative in posing with the cape. I did not have to give him many instructions. He naturally used it as if it were part of his everyday attire. He gave me more expression than usual. I think he felt comfortable in the get-up. Perhaps he was a ghoul in his past life.'
Tom says capturing the Ghoulish Hansel was one of their most fun and creatives sessions. So fun, our Ghoul decided he wanted to rise from the dead and feel the blood pumping through his body once again. Tom says Hansel seemed enjoy performing for the camera, especially when creating the more erotic images. Those shots, may be a little too hot for FH, but be sure to check them out on THE OVER-FLOW HERE:
