Ahh Ross Lynch, the man that you are!

Rake & Cake

Tis the season....

Tis the season for raking up all those fallen Autumn leaves.   Raking means lots of bending over and if you have a hot neighbour, especially one not a fan of belts, get out there and enjoy!

Twinless

A young man grieving the loss of his twin brother joins a support group for "twinless twins."

I know yet again I'm late to the party, but I finally watched Twinless this past weekend.  I say finally, as I've been reading and seeing lots of positive comments and reviews, and the film was released theatrically in September and is now streaming.  I love films with new and unique concepts and story ideas, and Twinless certainly delivers!

The film has a great cast including Lauren Graham, (Gilmore Girls ) and Chris Perfetti, (Abbott Elementary) The lead characters are inhabited by actors Dylan O'Brien and James Sweeney. I've always had an appreciation for the choices O'Brien has made with his career.  Sure, he's had high profile roles in television shows like Teen Wolf and on screen in the Maze Runner film series, but he's always balanced those roles with interesting roles in lower budge, more artsy projects and independent films.

The revelation for me however, was Sweeney, (below) who not only stars in the film, but also wrote and directed it.  With the very first few moments of the film, Sweeney quickly sets the tone, letting the audience know they're about t experience something different and new.  The concept was fascinating, and although I'm sure has been covered in cinema before, was presented in a way I'd never seen before.

Although the film begins with the audience seeing through Roman's, (O'Brien) eyes, we quickly dive into Dennis's, (Sweeney) world and find ourselves invested in both characters.  I won't give too much away, but if you're one of the few who hasn't checked it out, Twinless is now streaming on PRIME.

Julien Odoul: Politics at Play

I would say only in France could a former nude model be elected as a Deputy of the French National Assembly, but given the state of politics in America, I'm no longer sure.  Given the current president is a former reality host who 'played' a competent boss, aided generously by Mark Burnett and some skilled editors who made him sound somewhat coherent, anything is possible!

I'm always surprised when someone votes against their own interests.  I can't understand why any woman or person of color would vote for the orange anus, but then again, I don't understand why anyone of any sex or race would.  Anyone with a functioning brain cell, should know, and have always known, that he only acts in his own interests.  Black women truly are the most insightful among us.

It's one thing to vote against your own interests, but it's another to join, and become a leader in a party that thinks of you as less worthy of the same rights they have.  while Odoul and his party attempted to present themselves as defenders of LGBTQ+ people, underneath, it was all about just othering another group, pitting the LGBTQ+ community against others, like immigrants who they've labeled external threats.

When there was controversy over the 2024 Paris Olympic opening ceremony, all for celebrating diversity, Odoul's party called the celebration 'woke' and a ransacking of French culture.  He joined and leads in a party that delt with internal tensions over what was called the 'gay lobby' regarding the inclusion of openly gay politicians.

I'm not sure about any 'gay lobby', but if there was one, Odoul didn't seem to mind cashing in when he accepted money and jobs to pose nude for publications obviously targeted a group he is not only a member of, but whose rights he wants to repress.
