Holiday Briefs....

'Gobble me, then swallow me!'

Most holidays have clothing connections.   I guess maybe for Thanksgiving, it's a nice sweater to wear to dinner.  You can also buy holiday underwear for many celebrations, especially for Hanukkah and Christmas.  You don't often however, see Autumn underwear for Thanksgiving...

Thanks to Lucerys however, we've rectified that problem with this Autumn inspired pair of undies perfect for Thanksgiving!  Now those of whom have enjoyed my previous posts spotlighting Lucerys visuals, (HERE: & HERE:) you already know that the curtains match the drapes.  Now we also know, that the model and artist's underwear also matches the outside in both in color and motif!

The Bird

'The family spends Thanksgiving with Amy's parents. They seem to get along pretty well, at first, but when a bird hits the house and Pat kills it, it becomes a war.'

I didn't watch the Everybody Loves Raymond reunion that aired this week, but I may in the future.  Although the CBS sit-com is one of my favorite television comedies, I find it difficult to enjoy due to Patricia Heaton.   Heaton stars in two of my favorite comedies, The Middle being the other.  She sadly seems to have become more radical, reposting some really hateful things over the last few years.

I can disagree with someone on issues, but have to draw the line at hate.  Heaton, a Christian, has really followed the 'othering' trend, especially when it comes to the trans community.  I hope to get over this though, I do enjoy your work, especially in Raymond. i also miss the rest of the cast, especially the brilliant Doris Roberts.

I was still in school with the sit-com hit the air in the 1990's and was in my 'daddy' phase.   My crushes were tweed wearing University Profs, and especially their cute teaching assistants.  The TA's usually were there for office hours, and I often needed a little assistance... Ray Romano was certainly one of my favorite television daddies, and the sit-com had Ray Barone shirtless in several episodes.

The sit-com was famous for his holiday episodes.  There were many great Christmas episodes, my favorite being The Toaster.  They also did Halloween and Easter episodes as well.  The big holiday for the show however was Thanksgiving.  They always went all out with the writing for these holiday shows.  One of my favorites was the season 8 Thanksgiving episode titled The Bird.

Ally: Squanto and the Pilgrims became friends, but Squanto's tribe did not like the settlers.
Marie: This is an excellent play.
Ray: l think we should be friends with the Pilgrims and sign a peace treaty.
Hank: Yes, we promise to protect your people and treat you with kindness.
Robert: Lies. They're gonna screw us.

If you remember the episode, the Barone's were not happy to be spending Thanksgiving at Amy's parents house.  This becomes magnified after Amy's mom Pat, (Georgia Engel) kills a wounded bird that flew into the house.  This causes a riff which is only heightened when the families put on Allie's 'story' of the first Thanksgiving.  Ray rips off his shirt to take on the title role, and for some reason, even as a student, the scene had my daddy loving side incredibly turned out.

12 Days: Hunter Doohan in Wednesday

'You must think it's weird I'm stalking him...'
Tyler Galpin

First, I need to tell you that I haven't watched all of Wednesday on Netflix.  The show has really talented people behind it, including it's creators, including: Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Tim Burton, who also directed many of the episodes.  Despite the talent however, I find the show a rough watch, and often a tough chore to finish an episode.

Visually, the show looks fantastic, although they rely far too much, and often unnecessarily so, on the use of CGI.  The story is fine the show has plenty of history to draw on.  The acting is good, except oddly Christina Ricci.  Although Ricci played Wednesday in the original Addams Family films, she is just not suited for her role on the show.

There are two main issues for me.  First off, although I like Jenna Ortega, I don't think Wednesday was ever meant to lead or drive story.  The films and classic television show worked because there was a family.  A group of oddballs who fed off and worked well together.  Ortega's Wednesday is more of a downer and more suited as a supporting character rather than a compelling lead.

The bigger issue for me is the show's pacing.   It's SOOO slow, it takes a dozen scenes to convey a plot point that could have been done with just one line.  I guess maybe it's the  prioritizing visuals over actual stories.   That being said, I am now onto season 2, and I got there primarily due to the hotness, the talent and engaging Hunter Doohan.

Whenever Doohan, (Tyler) is in a scene, the material is elevated.   He brings an energy to his work, and to Ortega's Wednesday.  Tyler actually could have worked better as the protagonist instead of the antagonist.  It certainly doesn't hurt that Doohan is so hot, but he also plays both the naive teen hottie and the evil Hyde monster equally well, so hopefully the show will find away to put away Hyde for awhile and make him a series contender again for Wednesday's affections.

Hunter Doohan on Instagram

Although the show featured Doohan shirtless in season 2, he was also pantless in two feature films. The first, playing Bryan Cranston's son in the Showtime legal drama Your Honor.  More recently Doohan appeared on film in the the drama The Wilderness.

Your Honor

'A judge confronts his convictions when his son is involved in a hit-and-run that embroils an organized-crime family.'

The Wilderness

Troubled teens attend a Wilderness Therapy program in Utah's desert, navigating personal challenges amidst the harsh Outback environment.
