Reflections: Petarious by Vasilly

'
'The world is a looking-glass, and gives back to every man the reflection of his own face.'
William Makepeace Thackeray

Earlier this year, when I first featured the work of model and artist Peter Williams, (Petarious) I began with images featuring Peter posing for artists. (Center Stage:)  Peter had sent along various different shoots, including this one from San Francisco based photographer Vasilly.  I instantly thought of New Year's Eve, and tucked them away to use today.

I grew up after the age of Disco, so by the time I started going to clubs, most had long thrown their disco balls into closets or storage.  The only time they seemed to come out was a New Year's.  I always thought it was just because of the 'party' atmosphere they create, and that's probably it, but there's also a metaphorical connection between the large glitter ball and the holiday.

Given New Year's is about reflection, both looking back, and looking ahead, it's appropriate that  man-made reflector has become one of it's symbols. A disco ball, or mirror ball, is a roughly spherical object that reflects light directed at it in many directions, producing a complex display. Its surface consists of hundreds or thousands of facets, nearly all of approximately the same shape and size, and each has a mirrored surface.  Of course that it's so glittery and shiny doesn't hurt.

12 Days: Only You, New Year's Movie?

'As a teen, Faith was told that her destiny is a man named Damon Bradley. Years later, when she's about to marry someone else, a Damon Bradley calls to wish them well, and Faith blows off her wedding to follow Damon to Italy.'

So, is 1994's  Only You a New Year's movie, I'll let you decide.  I'd never seen the 90's comedy before, but after seeing that TCM has scheduled for airing on New Year's Eve, I decided to check it out.  When I read the description,   In one review, it described the film as a romantic scavenger hunt, that culminates in their finally meeting and connect. The New Year's Eve part, being the grand finale where they realize they are meant to be.

I'm not sure there was really a New Year's Eve party, not one with glitter and balloons that we usually see.  I watched, and really enjoyed the rom-com, but don't remember hearing anything about a New Year's bash.  Still, it was fun to watch a 90's comedy that I some how over looked.

Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei were both gorgeous, and there were several other hotties met along the way.  In addition to Downey Jr and Joaquim de Almeida, we also meet a hot Billy Zane, (below) one of several 'Damon Bradley's' Tomei's character meets along the way.  Bonnie Hunt is always a scene stealer. I also loved the few scenes with Siobhan Fallon and wish director Norman Jewison had brought her character to Italy.

Then, there was the beautiful face of actor John Benjamin Hickey who played Dwayne, Tomei's finance in the film.  Sadly we didn't see much of Dwayne as Hickey sort of played the same role that Bill Pulman did in Sleepless in Seattle.  Not 'the one' and destined to be left at the alter.  Still, it had me thinking about Hickey, and looking back on the many nude scenes over his career.   Check out my Actors & Skin post, featuring his great frontal in  Love! Valour! Compassion! (HERE:) and the other nude scene on his skin resume. (HERE:)

In politics, they say it's best to under promise and over deliver.  Unfortunately the current occupant of the White House over promised and is staggeringly under delivering.  He's also a sociopathic, narcissistic, bigoted imbecile, but I digress.  When it comes to the reason most of you are here, hot and creative visuals, photographer Tom Rubeck, (TR Pics) always goes above and beyond expectations.

Tom wasn't initially sure he'd have that many new shots to celebrate the big night, then, with back to back shoots, pretty much starting about the same time the Christmas turkey was being  put away, last night, Tom sent on a series of images featuring not 1, but five different holiday hotties.  One, Gabriel, you've seen before, the others are making their FH debut, and I am hoping Tom will share more of each of them in the future.

It wasn't just New Year's Eve and Christmas Tom created to help the site celebrate.  In just the last 12 months alone, Tom also shot original imagery for Thanksgiving, Halloween, July 4th, Father's Day, Easter, Valentine Day, Lunar New Year and The Academy Awards.  Tom always welcomes my imaginative impulses, and I can't wait to see what he creates in 2026!!!!
