'I always thought about nude modeling, but being someone who suffers from body dysmorphia, I always felt internal resistance to go through with it.'
Over the years of working on FH, I'm still excited about the power and and impact that great art can generate. Not just for those visually enjoying it, but also for those who created it. A great image can not only change how we feel and think about the subject, it can also change the way the subject feels about themselves.
For so many models in particular, posing completely nude can be life altering. So many models that I've featured over the years, models whose images are devoured by lovers of the male form,, have shared their personal journeys. Stories of their struggles with confidence, their sense of self and issues with their bodies.
One would assume someone struggling with body dysmorphia would avoid doing something that draws attention, especially to their naked body. For
Chris O’Mallus however, this was exactly what he decided to do. They say you should face your fears, but as we all know, that's easier said than done. Most of us, spend our lives bobbing and weaving to avoid anything and everything that makes us feel uncomfortable. I personally have perfected my methods for getting out of having to do presentations to large groups.
A few years ago, I was asked, no make that instructed by my boos, to be the MC at a charity auction. My anxiety was off the charts, but in the end, I killed it. I delt with my stress with careful planning, and it, and my jokes, went over really well. I'm not jumping at the chance to do it again, but if I'm ever in that position again, I don't think my freak out will be as severe.
When
ClearEye first sent on his work with Chris, so many things stuck out to me. First off, I assumed I was enjoying images of an experienced model. Chris seem so self assured in front of the lens, creating uniquely sensual poses with his beautiful body. The vibrant colors in Chris's body art was also visually alluring. In addition to his great physique, I also loved Chris's face and smile, and how engaging he was with the camera. Given how new he was to modeling, he and ClearEye created and captured an incredible array of looks and emotions.
Chris had seen ClearEye's work on line, and contacted him earlier this year about his interest in modeling. Although his experience in front of the camera was minimal, ClearEye was struck by his look, especially his wholesome look. ClearEye knew it would be a great visual contrast to capture Chris out of his clothes and in a more erotic context.
'When we met I was taken by his easy-going charm and confidence. Like many attractive guys, he thought that modeling would be a good way to work on body self-acceptance. But he didn’t seem like he had any self-esteem issues at all. He was easy and fun to work with!'
What motivated you to contact ClearEye?
I had done some modeling in the past but never fully nude, and I just so happened to stumble on his profile thru social media.
What about ClearEye's images drew you to his work?
I liked the more natural approach he took with his photography, and his previous work. I also saw how he put a lot of focus on the model themselves.
Have you always wanted to model nude or did something specific motivate you?
I always thought about nude modeling, but being someone who suffers from body dysmorphia, I always felt internal resistance to go through with it. I finally did it as a way to help overcome that struggle.
A few months after this series was shot, ClearEye reached out to Chris again about scheduling a second shoot. He had arranged access to a cool outdoor space that was just secluded enough for shooting nudes. Chris was very eager to get in front of the camera again, especially to shoot outdoors.
