' I was always an artist. Since before I could write, I was drawing, painting and taking photos.'
Recently, I've been trying to empty out an old account on iDrive. I got the account years ago to store images for the site, but I rarely use it any more. I'm also tired of paying the annual fee. One of the folders I found featured a series of images that model
Brody Harris had sent on. Some may remember that many years ago, I worked with Dylan Rosser on
tMf magazine. I interviewed Brody for the on-line magazine's third issue.
I remember vividly Brody talking about growing up in American Fork Utah, the city that Bomont, the fictional town in Footloose, was based on. Brody shared he had an entirely different experience in growing up in the north-central Utah city. Unlike Kevin Bacon's character Ron, Brody remembers be surround with a family and friend group far more liberal, and far less puritanical, than those depicted in the film.

I had asked Brody to send on some of his favorite shots and included, were images from his work with photographer Joe Mazza. (
The Male Image) Given tMf magazine's motto was 'less fashion/more skin', Dylan ended up choosing images from Kristopher Kelly and Rick Day which featured full nudes of Brody. There was something about this series that stuck with me though. I thought Brody looked especially hot in his socks and undies, and loved the fun and personality that Joe so beautifully captured.
I remember Brody sharing that he had a focus on concept. With nude shoots especially, but also in how it impacted his choices of what to shoot, and who to shoot with. Given this, I was very interested in how his work with Joe came about. After contacting Joe, I learned this shoot was actually for an underwear brand, Yorkies, as you can see from the log on Brody's waist band. Although the company is no longer in business, Joe s remembers the shoot well, and has fond memories of his work with Brody.

Did you hire Brody for the Yorkies campaign? The client left it to me to find a few models for that shoot and Brody was my first choice for obvious reasons. I think they said yes before his last name came out of my mouth.
What was your first impression of his look when you met?
He does live in San Francisco so we didn’t really have a first meet moment. It was more that we’d seen each other around. I will say while he may be short in stature, he’s a rock star in front of the camera and the crew was quite giddy when he showed up. lol

Anything about the shoot that stands out that you remember?
He was sweet, a little shy actually but really happy to be there and eager to do a good job. We threw a lot of activities at him, trying to give as much variety as possible and he didn’t hesitate or worry about looking silly. He just had fun.
What was your favorite part about working with Brody?
Aside from the fact that I got to work with a model who’s work I admired. I just found him to be a fun collaborator and all around pretty adorable guy at that shoot - and he still is today, adorable that is.
The bathroom shots are fun, how did they come about?
The bathroom shots were my idea. I tried to find ways to display the brand that felt more un-posed and spontaneous; Around the ankles is always kind of sexy and playful with underwear. I wanted that series to feel like a friend busted in while he was using the bathroom so I talked him though different reactions. He was great!
