Bomer or Bust?
I have yet to start watching Mid-Century Modern, but I plan on giving it a shot. I love me some Matthew Bomer, (above) and am a huge fan of Nathan Lane. The reviews I've read however, haven't all been kind. Most, mention Linda Lavin as the stand-out, and given her recent death, that is bound to leave a massive hole.
Maybe they can replace her, not the actress of course, or even the character, but the 'motherly role'. Maybe she had a sister who moves in. Normally, such a re-cast would mean a series is near the end, but given this show just got off the ground, it could work if done correctly and with just the right actress.
Paul Kircher in T'as Pécho?
In the changing rooms of the swimming pool, a long, intimate and collective learning process begins on girls and love.
Earlier this year, I featured the film Winter Boy starring French actor Paul Kircher. (HERE:) I watched the movie with subtitles, but that didn't hinder my enjoyment of the powerful beauty and sadness of the story. I was looking to find another movie featuring Kircher and read a little about the 2020 comedy, T'as Pécho? (How To to Make Out)
This time, the copy I purchased on Amazon didn't have subtitles, but thankfully I knew enough French to get the gist of the story. Kircher plays Arthur, a student who's madly in love with Ouassima. Problem is, she doesn't really notice him. She's also dating Matt, a handsome guy whose in college.
The movie was a sweet love story with some interesting characters and another interesting performance by Kircher. Kircher was in his final year of high school when he met a casting director who cast him in the lead role in Kircher's first feature film. Kircher was 18 or 19 during the filming, but given his young face, easily passes for the 15 year old Arthur. There is also a very quick butt flash after Ouassima convinces Arthur to give her his bathing suit.
Grant Show: Actors & SKIN
Sadly, actor Grant Show hasn't done many nude scenes, just two that I could find, but that doesn't mean he hasn't shared plenty of skin. Almost a decade before Melrose Place hit the air, Show became a soap star, and soap hunk, thanks to his role on Ryan's Hope. Show stated on the Podcast he thought he was only signing on to the New York based soap for 3 months, but later found out that he'd actually signed a contract for 3 years.
Give his hot body and chiseled good looks, the soap took full advantage of the soap stud, with plenty of shirtless scenes and plenty of shirtless promotional photos. Looking on E-bay at old soap magazines from the 1980's, it seems Show was shirtless in most in full page pin-ups. I'm not sure the image right below is Show, but it is credited as an early modeling shot. The face certainly fits.
Once his three year contract was up, Show headed west to be close to auditions for pilot season. Before long, he was getting more 'studly' roles in movies and television shows including the 1990 Jackie Collins Mini-Series, Lucky Chances. I don't know if I saw Lucky Chances, but I do remember it being heavily promoted. The mini-series also marked an early television role for Sandra Bullock. I wasn't a huge Jackie Collins fan, but I do remember reading Hollywood Wives on my long bus rides home from university. I also remember tucking it tightly inside my Psychology text book so it wouldn't be seen.
Show was one of the first actors hired for Melrose Place when he was cast as Jake, the 'older man' then 16 year old Kelly was crushing over on Beverly Hills 90210. The relationship doesn't really seem that scandalous, but Show was in his twenties, and Kelly was still in High School at the time.
Although Melrose Place started as a show about 20 somethings trying to make it in Los Angeles, it soon went the soapy route focusing on romance, break-ups and melodrama. They never really focused too much on friendships. I would have liked Jake to have been closer friends with Matt. (Doug Savant)
Poor Matt didn't have many friends after they wrote Rhona out of the show and as the the only gay character, was often written as a side character. He needed closer relationships with the other cast members, and Jake really needed a friend, especially with all the trouble, both romance and otherwise, he often found himself in.
A Woman, Her Men, and Her Futon
Although Melrose Place certainly got Jake shirtless a lot, (so much so, there's a running tally on the Podcast) it was Show's role in A Woman, Her Men, and Her Futon that provided his first 'nude scene'. The 1990 film actually came out just before Melrose Place and although we didn't see much, there were still some hot side shots of Show's muscular butt.
After Show left Melrose Place, I was impressed at his choice of roles and projects. Show seemed to be working hard to avoid the 'stud' roles, seeking more offbeat characters in dramas, as well as roles in quite a few comedies. I never saw a second of the CW remake of Dynasty, in fact Show shares few in the US watched. It was however, a big hit internationally. I did however see enough caps of Show to know that he as he enters his 60's, he looking as hot as ever. Show was asked about abs on the Podcast and admitted that although they've changed a bit, he still has to do very little to maintain his fit physique. Needless to say, his female co-stars were not overly impressed.

The Blue Boa...
I'm all for more male nudity on the runway, but this seems like a fashion fail.... Not sure who created this lettuce like headpiece and long blue boa, but I'm guessing they never made it to your local department store.
Another Room, An Alternate View
Fans of the male form on film are undoubtedly familiar with 1985's A Room With A View. I featured the film, and the 'bathe' scene in my Monumental Movie Moments. (HERE:) Who can forget watching George, (Julian Sands) Freddy, (Rupert Graves) and poor ole Mr. Beebe (Simon Callow) stripping down for a naked bathe in the pond.
Turns out however, there was another adaptation of the E. M. Forster novel I hadn't heard about. Thanks to the posters at DC however, I was educated about the 2007 version which aired on Britain's ITV. This version featured an entirely different cast, led by Elaine Cassidy as Lucy Honeychurch.
Although the actors were different, the story remained the same, although in this case, the three male characters skinning dipping were not going for a bathe, but simply for a swim. In this version, George was played by actor Rafe Spall, Freddy by actor Tom Byam Shaw and Mr. Beebe by actor Mark Williams.
Given it aired on television, I don't think there was quite as many frontal shots as in the original, but there were still a couple of quick frontals, and lot of rear nudity shown. Check out caps and a clip from the nude romp in the pond on the NEXT PAGE HERE:

Chase Vollenweider: Posterior Preparation
Last November, I posted a piece featuring singer Robbie Williams, and the trailer for Better Man, the film based on his life and career. (HERE:) I've since seen the movie and really enjoyed it. The film didn't do that well in America, and that make sense as Williams wasn't as well known here. I really liked the film, especially the first half, featuring Robbie's introduction to fame and stardom.
I was really interested in Robbie's time in Take That, and it was interesting to see how they were deliberately marketed to gay audiences. Initially, they were booked to perform exclusively in gay clubs, which puts their videos and promotional images in perspective. In the film, Australian singer, dancer and musician Chase Vollenweider plays Jason Orange, an original member of Take That.
As you can see from the video above, being a pop star isn't always easy. Chase, as Jason, needs his butt perfected prior to hitting the stage. In addition to prepping Chase's perfect posterior, he also had a chin attached to his face to ensure he had the same square chin as Jason Orange.
As you can see, they replicated the famous Do What You Like Video, however, most of the Take That scenes were quick montages, so we didn't get a really great view of any of the guys during the making of the video.
I really wasn't bothered by the films creative choices, especially to have a CGI monkey playing the role of Williams. After a minute or two, you sort of forgot, and I get the reason for the choice. That being said, I'm also convinced it was really necessary, nor the right choice. The monkey may actually have turned off some audiences, and if they'd cast a hot, talented young actor, they may have bigger audiences in America. Still, the film was good and I enjoyed my introduction to Chase Vollenweider.
