Locked & Looking...

Most viewers know I loved Heartstopper.  I only started watching last summer, but devoured the first two seasons in a short period of time.  Leads Joe Locke and Kit Connor bring both skill and emotion to their roles and I see myself in parts of both Charlie and Nick.  I was a high school athlete, (like Nick) but also had struggles similar to those that Charlie faced.

I struggled a bit with the third season, and it took me a little longer to finish.  I didn't love the tone and darker storytelling.  As important as the story was, and as incredible as the performances were, it took me longer to finish.  I also think I didn't want the show to end, knowing the third was the last full season.

If you're a fan of the show, you know that Heartstopper Forever, the movie to close the series, began airing last week.  That meant that Locke, Connor and the rest of the cast were all over the net doing interviews and promotion.  Both actors, at one point shared a bit of 'naked news.'  Locke shared that accidently posted a butt pic on his main Instagram.  It was a shot after a waxing, and meant for his private account for close friends.  Locke seemed pleased with the image, and shared it was out there if anyone was looking for it.  Of course I did, and the shot below has to be the pic he referenced. 

Kit Connor also talked about a night he and William Gao (Tao) were partying, and as many of us did, mooned the cars going by.  Connor also shared that there is a video out there.  Now, I'm guessing the video was taken by a friend, (maybe Locke or Tobie Donovan. (Isaac)   If this is the case, we'll most likely never see it.  If however, like Locke's photo, it eventually surfaces, I make sure to  find it.  Connor also shared that there were scenes he and Joe were 'buck naked' filmed for the movie that never made the final edit.  Hopefully a 'director's cut' will also eventually be released.

A Look Back: Reckless

A motorbike riding loner rebel on the high school football team wins a date with a cute, rich cheerleader. At the high school dance, her boyfriend's behavior leads to a breakup - opening doors.

1984's Reckless was a film of firsts.  Not only did it mark the film debut of actor Aidan Quinn, it also marked the first feature film of it's director, James Foley and it's writer, Christopher Columbus.  I rewatched the hot love story over and over as a kid, pausing the VHS tape and rewatching Quinn in so many scenes.

Yes, the nude scenes, over and over, but also so many other great scenes as well.  Quinn really embodied the hot bad boy and he smoldered throughout the film, beautifully in the role of the brooding Rourke.  Quinn wasn't the first actor offered the role however. Maxwell Caulfield was originally offered the lead role, but decided to turn it down.  Caulfield had just finished Grease 2 and did not want to play another character in a film set at high school who rides a motorbike. Caulfield later regretted the decision  As great as Quinn is in the role, I can't help but also imagine Caulfield in those nude scenes...

For those of you who remember watching the initial VHS release, you'll remember that in addition to the frontal in the bedroom, Quinn also went full frontal in the shower scene.  Sadly, with the format change to DVD and Blu-Ray, the second frontal in the shower, (see clip below) was cropped.

Rewatching Reckless recently on TCM, I was struck by just how 80's the film feels.  The look, the tone, and of course the movie.  I was also struck by how director Foley and writer Columbus gave us two fully conceived characters.   Yes, the male skin is a draw, but the story and the emotion also pull you in and it's a really well written story and well directed and acted film.
