April Come She Will: Serg by Richard Rothstein

April come she will
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain
May she will stay
Resting in my arms again
June she'll change her tune
In restless walks she'll prowl the night
Simon & Garfunkel

Are we hornier in Spring?  Seems like it. After a winter of being cooped up inside, spring fever can hit hard, pushing us not only outside, but out of our comfort zones to explore the sights, sounds and scents of a area both renewing and energising. For many birds and animals, spring is the mating season, with the longer days leading to longer periods of lust.  It makes sense then that the symbol for Easter, spring's biggest holiday, is a rabbit.

As much as I love Richard Rothstein's images of Serg, and the male form, I equally love his majestic city, street and landscapes.  When Richard first sent on this new series, I began by choosing a new screen saver for the season. I then decided the only way to present them was to feature the images before, and after Richard's edits.  I was struck how it almost looks as if Serg is being created, born from the earth below.  He has risen, much like the spring flowers, to bath in the heat, and grow in the light, from the sun above.
