'You must think it's weird I'm stalking him...'
Tyler Galpin
First, I need to tell you that I haven't watched all of Wednesday on Netflix. The show has really talented people behind it, including it's creators, including: Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Tim Burton, who also directed many of the episodes. Despite the talent however, I find the show a rough watch, and often a tough chore to finish an episode.
Visually, the show looks fantastic, although they rely far too much, and often unnecessarily so, on the use of CGI. The story is fine the show has plenty of history to draw on. The acting is good, except oddly Christina Ricci. Although Ricci played Wednesday in the original Addams Family films, she is just not suited for her role on the show.
There are two main issues for me. First off, although I like Jenna Ortega, I don't think Wednesday was ever meant to lead or drive story. The films and classic television show worked because there was a family. A group of oddballs who fed off and worked well together. Ortega's Wednesday is more of a downer and more suited as a supporting character rather than a compelling lead.
The bigger issue for me is the show's pacing. It's SOOO slow, it takes a dozen scenes to convey a plot point that could have been done with just one line. I guess maybe it's the prioritizing visuals over actual stories. That being said, I am now onto season 2, and I got there primarily due to the hotness, the talent and engaging Hunter Doohan.
Whenever Doohan, (Tyler) is in a scene, the material is elevated. He brings an energy to his work, and to Ortega's Wednesday. Tyler actually could have worked better as the protagonist instead of the antagonist. It certainly doesn't hurt that Doohan is so hot, but he also plays both the naive teen hottie and the evil Hyde monster equally well, so hopefully the show will find away to put away Hyde for awhile and make him a series contender again for Wednesday's affections.
Although the show featured Doohan shirtless in season 2, he was also pantless in two feature films. The first, playing Bryan Cranston's son in the Showtime legal drama Your Honor. More recently Doohan appeared on film in the the drama The Wilderness.
'A judge confronts his convictions when his son is involved in a hit-and-run that embroils an organized-crime family.'
Troubled teens attend a Wilderness Therapy program in Utah's desert, navigating personal challenges amidst the harsh Outback environment.
