Historically, it's been artists and writers that have always been sacrifice during societal changes. This is especially true when it comes to the nude male form.  Even going back to the 1500's, Michelangelo's work was  subject to criticism and protests.  Although both male and female nudes have always been under attack, it's the male nude that has consistently led to objections, mostly on religious and moral ground, during the Counter-Reformation period in the 1500 and 1600's, all the way through the present. 

So much of it to me comes down to fear.  Since men have generally been the ones in power, they've fought having the male form seen as objects of desire.  They prefer men to be seen as leaders, the hunters and aggressors. To have men as the object of desire is frightening to them on many levels. They seem to think it means relinquishing power, when in truth, it means acquiring power, albeit in a different form.

I think it's also frightening to some that some long supressed desires can be even harder to keep hidden.  If there's any merit to the Kinsey scale, there are many men, hiding even small parts of their natural compulsions.  We all know by now, hiding organic tendencies, never ends well...  Sadly, we've entered another period of history, where in some countries, art, books and ideas are again under attack.  Many countries are currently seeing right-wing policies lead to a roll back social policies. At the same time, other countries and cultures are experiencing more progressive change. (Thailand for example, legalized same-sex marriage earlier this year) 

Over the last few months, I've had several models, not hold back from sharing images, but declining to share parts of their story.  Being public with your feelings can be dangerous at times, especially when dictators are in charge.  I've never held back sharing my thoughts on FH, but since tis past January, have been acutely aware that some reactions, can go dangerously beyond mere disagreements. This means it's even more important for artists and writers to continue to speak out, and loudly.  Chroniclers of the nude male form do this with their visuals.  One of the most artistically outspoken, is photographer Haruehun Airry who has graciously shared this series of images from some of his most recent shoots.

I've aways been most impressed by Airry's honest and beautifully stark visual depictions of the male form.  Airry never tries to 'hide' is models behind props or locations, they are always front and center.  The male form is the focus, and Airry makes no apologies.  The strength and power in his images is clear and fierce, and it's one of the reasons

There is something special about an August beach day.  As the last full summer month begins to wane, our appreciation for the season's magic and beauty is treasured more than ever.  On the East coast where I live, moments of coolness have already began, reminding us that the opportunities to hit the beach, are beginning to diminish. 

In parr, the magic of an August beach day is about the air.  Although the sun still holds the power, to cascade warmth over our skin, as we rise from the hot the sand, we're greeted by unique layers of coolness reserved for late summer days.  There's also a the change of light.  As summer transitions into fall, the sun gets lower and the August angles seem to creates more glistening visuals with more reds and oranges beginning to flow in.

For photographer Haruehun Airry, late summer, and the naturist lifestyle, offers a path to reconnecting with both nature and oneself. I've been visually celebrating Lunar New Year on the site for five years now.  I started due to my fascination with the holiday, and loved the celebrations vibrant colors, dances and festivals.  I also had a desire to learn more about the history, the traditions and the cultural significance.   Lunar New Year has become one of my favorite holidays to commemorate, and a great occasion to spotlight the extraordinary beauty of the Asian male form.

I strive to feature diversity, with age, body types, culture and ethnicity on the site.  Although my degree of success continues to fluctuate, it will always be a goal.  It's become especially important the last eight or nine years, given certain political figures want to take us back.  What these people haven't figured out yet, is that you can never really go back.  You can try, and have temporary success, but ultimately, it remains scientifically impossible to return to the past. 

That doesn't however, stop them from trying.  They create obstacles we must continue to push back on in order to keep moving forward.  It's exhausting, but we know equality and diversity are both essential, and inevitable, and there success is a indication of a healthy culture and a safer and more caring community. 

One of the artists fighting the good fight and elevating the Asian male form is photographer Haruehun Airry.  It's one of the reasons I love his work so much, and why I love featuring his visuals on the holiday. Lunar New Year 🧧 is a celebration of renewal, prosperity, and cultural pride. It’s a time to reflect on achievements and set new goals for the future. In the world of modeling, one of the most significant shifts in recent years has been the growing recognition of Asian male models—thanks to trailblazing photographers like Airry. 

For decades, Asian men were underrepresented in the global modeling industry, often sidelined in favor of Western beauty standards. Their sex appeal, strength, and charisma were frequently overlooked.  I love how Airry captures the male form, so clean and clear, the male form in all it's pure prosperity.  Airry doesn't conceal any the men that he shoots.  No illusion is necessary, just a spotlight on the beauty that is. 

Although underrepresented for years, the rise of fitness culture and changing perceptions of masculinity have brought newfound appreciation for well-trained, sculpted bodies that represent not only physical discipline but also hard work and resilience—qualities deeply rooted in Asian traditions.  Haruehun Airry has played a crucial role in showcasing this evolution. His photography does more than just highlight aesthetics; it captures the essence of confidence, emotional intelligence, and self-acceptance. 

Airry's nude portraits, in particular, challenge stereotypes by presenting Asian men as bold, empowered, and in control of their own narratives. Posing nude requires courage, vulnerability, and self-awareness—qualities that deserve global respect. Often it's an artist's own words that perfectly sum up what initially drew me to their work.  In the case of photographer and media practitioner  Haruehun Airry's, his use of the phrase 'purest form' which beautifully captured what I feel when spending time with Haruehun's imagery.

I love exploring Asian culture, and love featuring Asian artists and models.  It can however, be difficult at times to find subjects to feature.  In part, it's cultural, customs and laws with regards to nudity, especially male nudity, differs depending where in the world you live and work.  It's not just Asian culture that plays a role in how the male Asian form is presented, North American stereotypes is also a contributor.

In America, Asian men continue to be pushed into traditional stereotypes, often as either asexual, or over sexual, unassertive domestics or violent gang members or a karate chopping Jackie Chan.  Historically, Asian models have often been forced to take on one of these roles, especially Asian men in the media.

We all know however, that Asian men, like all men, have varying degree's of sensuality, aggression, passion and masculinity.  Stereotypes rarely represent those they represent and I love how Haruehun Airry ignores media convention and so purely captures the essence of the men in front of his camera.  It's obvious Haruehun doesn't just capture male beauty, but has a passion and a distinct eye for it.

Haruehun's images are precise, beautifully detailed and fully composed images of the model in front of his lens.  Haruehun's lighting and poses beautifully highlights every inch of the model he's shooting, the smoothness of their skin, the texture and softness of their lips and hair, both on their heads, an other parts of their body.  Raised in a family of artists, Haruehun images of the male form are both powerful and erotically distinct, making the Thailand based artist in demand by both models and advertisers who choose his images to represent their products.

After earning a bachelor's degree in Communication Management from Chulalongkorn University.  Haruehun's photography of the male form soon noticed and in addition to being widely published on Asian social media, has featured in man advertising campaigns, promotions as well as in books on the covers of many international magazines including Attitude and Men's Health.

The Process Piece: 

Haruehun also uses his art, and his celebrity to support causes he believes in and in 2011 was appointed by the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre an advocate for a charity project called Adam′s Love which fosters comprehensive HIV/AIDS education.

Although it was Haruehun's unique skill at capturing his subjects in their purest form which first drew me to his work, it was also his course of creation that had me enjoying spending time on his Twitter and Instagram.  FH readers know I love the process piece, and Haruehun publishes many behind the scenes images from his shoots. 

It was hard to narrow down, but I wanted to include a few (ok, more than a few) favorite behind the scene shots in this piece.  Through Haruehun's many BTS scenes shots and videos, we get see the artist and models at work.  I love telling the story of an images creation, especially when that image is of the male form. More often than not, it's the process, and what occurs behind the scenes that reveals the most about how an artists works, and how that work results in the finished art that we all see.

'Male nudity. It is the most challenging to me. Some people say that because everyone loves seeing nudes, I don’t think so. Not everyone looks great in the nude.  Making a man beautifully interesting is my priority. Sometimes I use photography to prove my point. Like if I find someone really attractive, while other people might think he’s just average, my photography will prove it.'

FH kicked off February by celebrating the work of artist Haruehun Airry. In that piece, (The Divine) I featured a selection of some of Haruehun's favorite images and models. Today, the focus is on just one model, the captivating Tan.   As soon as I saw this series of image it was Tan's beautiful face and eyes that immediately drew my focus.  Tan's eyes are powerfully seductive, especially when staring through Haruehun's lens directly at the viewer.

Tan also has an incredible physique and  I love how Haruehun captured the light cascading down his beautiful skin. As hot he is, Tan actually wasn't initially sure that he wanted to continue doing photo shoots as he didn't feel he was as fit as he'd been in the past.  We're so often the hardest on ourselves and sometimes it takes someone else to help us see past the barriers we often put up. 

Tan's girlfriend certainly knew how hot her boyfriend was and encouraged him to connect with Haruehun to create new images. Haruehun's goal is to always focus on the beauty and positive outlooks in life. This led to some quality conversations between Haruehun  and Tan during the shooting the process.

What do you look for in a model? 

Of course being physically fit is vital for my genre of photography, but on top of that I’ve always looked for courage in a model. Beautiful men are plenty, but those who come with confidence are rare. I believe that we are here to empower and inspire the viewers. So, mentality is as important as physical features.

Are there any specific physical traits you especially like to shoot?

Being physically fit. These days people talk about embracing body diversity, which I am not against by the way. However, being fit is a different thing. It comes from hard work. These people should somehow be rewarded and celebrated

One thing a model should not do while shooting with you?

Not respecting other people’s time? Well, weird events happened during some shoots, but I don’t really remember most of them because I don’t focus on negativity. There was this guy, though, as far as I remember. We asked him to shave his beard, and then he spent time in the restroom forever until the team got annoyed. Then we found that he was doing a livestream there despite knowing that everyone was waiting at the set.

What is the strangest thing a model has requested? 

I believe that nothing in the world is strange; it is only us who lack adequate experience. Well, the strangest thing I remember was when the model asked me to sexually play with him. He said that the fact that I didn’t “harass” or touch him at all made him feel uncomfortable and lose confidence. The shoot went really awkward. He even wondered if I didn’t like him personally because I didn’t take any actions when the chance was given. He said, when he went to other shoots, it was common that he at least got touched by the photographer. Sometimes they gave him orals and he felt proud that he was irresistibly hot. Well, I was a bit shocked to hear but I don’t judge, as long as the actions are consensual.
