Andrew Bowman: Hump Day

The term 'hump day' has been around for decades, originating long before the Internet, back in the 1950's.  It began of course as simply a way of referencing Wednesday, the day in the middle of the work week.  The 'hump' is a metaphor for 'getting over the hump', then coasting through the next two days to the weekend.

Like every common term or catchphrase, the Internet, and especially social media, finds a way to take hold of certain terms, and make them their own.   The connection to the buttocks is something relatively new, and something many lovers and creators of the male form have adopted for their Wednesday posts.

If you're a FH reader, you know that around here, everyday is hump day.  If it's raining, it's a wet hump day, if it's sunny, it's a dry hump, but either way, when it comes to the male form, those fleshy hind humps are one of the most photogenic parts of the male body.  Sure, there's a sexual connection, but with visuals of the nude body, the focus is on natural lines and curves.   There are no hotter natural curves on the male form than those curvy cheeks. 

I've written before how surprised I am when I'm sent a series of images which doesn't include a butt shot.  There's nothing more disappointing to me than to get a large group of images without a rear view. As a fan of the male form, I want to see the entire form, and not just a big batch of penis pics.  I know I may be in the minority, but the penis is one of the least interesting parts of the male form, at least when it comes to visuals of the male form.

Of course, I love a great frontal shot, but the shoots I love to feature are ones in which the photographer captures the male form it it's entirety.  I want a great shot of the models face, full body shots and beautiful poses.  I also want the images to hit an emotional note, giving the viewer hints of who the man is beyond just their naked body.

One of my favorite visual recorders of the rump is photographer Andrew Bowman.  I remember in one of my first posts back in 2012 featuring Andrew's work with Anthony. (HERE:)  I was so impressed with how fully he captured the entirety of Anthony's anatomy and how especially creative he was capturing Anthony's amazing ass.  Andrew's images were not only artistic and erotic, they were also playful and fun. 

Andrew's attention on the ass, and the male form in it's entirety, wasn't just a creative choice by the artist, but in some cases, a necessity.   Most photographers have worked with models who don't want to show the full goods to the world.  Some also, may not have the most photogenetic penises.  This is one of the reasons Andrew came up with 'modesty bouquet', the flowers Andrew has used in so many of his shoots.

In addition, with many models now having their own OnlyFans site, even if a model is up for full frontals taken, they may choose to keep those for subscribers only.  This means many photographers have to use their creative skills to capture hot visuals that they can share, while still respecting the choices of the models they're working with.

Because he's taken so many great shots of the stern, Andrew often includes a hump day shot on his Instagram,.   This inspired me to asked the UK based photographer if he'd be up for my featuring some of my favorites on the site.  Well.... ask, and ye shall receive.   Andrew sent me on hundreds of images of dozens and dozens of different models, each with their own unique formed and created caboose.

I then had the tough, but pleasurable job of narrowing down the shots to my favorites.  I couldn't!  What I did do however, was narrow them into categories.  Today's images are all what I'd call the 'bare' butt.  I  including only butts totally bare, without the inclusion of any fashion, props or theme.  The others, I'll hold for hump days to come!

Many regular FH readers know, that over the past year, I've been celebrating 'hump day'  with a series of picturesque posteriors, (HERE:)from photographer Andrew Bowman.  Although I've posted may pieces spotlighting Andrew's work featuring full frontals, this theme was actually inspired due to the censorship and restrictions on social media.  

It's risky to even post butt pics on Instagram, but generally from my experience, they're left alone.  I've certainly had a few butt pics removed my Instagram page, but unless they're overly sexual, most have been permitted to remain.  Given this, I saw so many great butt shots on Andrew's Instagram page, I asked to feature some on 'hump day.'  Andrew shared so many great shots, I've had plenty of different looks and themes to share. 

Today's hump day look is obviously the ultimate genital and buttock supporter for men, the jockstrap. Given many social media pages forbid 'nudes', jockstrap images are often ok.  Technique, the model is 'clothed' with the jockstrap acting more like a bra for bros, strapping and supporting those private parts.  The front is a covering, protecting the penis, the back straps actually lift and help highlight the hindquarters. 

'When it comes to photographing the buttocks, generally I prefer quite muscular butts, round and peachy. Swimmers have great butts, as do dancers. I have shot a couple of ballet dancers who gave me rear curtain calls which was impressive to see.'

Much like the 'modesty bouquet', Andrew can utilize the jockstrap to both screen the schlong from view. as well as provide pops of color with a fetish fashion piece.  I've written before about the interesting history of the jockstrap.  The garment was initially invented to provide support and comfort for the genitals for men riding their bicycles on the cities then cobblestoned streets. 

Jockstraps have continued to be used in sport for protection and support, but they've also become visual symbols for two seemingly different, yet connected cultural communities.. Elements of athletic masculinity were adopted by the LGBTQ+ community as a symbol of sexual freedom.  Jockstraps are also  one of the best ways to both show-off and spotlight the curves of the male butt. It makes perfect sense then, that Andrew and so many photographers with a focus on the male form, would use jockstraps within their work.

Andrew Bowman, Hump Day, Baby Blue Edition

I've been featuring 'Hump Day' photos from photographer Andrew Bowman since last Autumn and as you can see today's theme is baby blue. I am not usually a big fan of baby blue.  I'm not normally drawn to it, especially painted on walls in a room.  I don't buy baby blue clothes, or even like traditional baby blue colors for infants.  The exception however would be with men's underwear, especially briefs.   I've told this story before, but for those who missed it, the reason is very specific, and stems from a brief moment in my high school gym.

When I was in high school, I played Riff in West Side Story.  I'm sure that I'm not the only 'Riff' to have had a crush on the guy in my production's Tony.  That  guy I'm sure many of you know.  He was a popular, good looking, (cute, more than sexy) and a jock.  There is always one jock in high school who ends up in the school musical. I played basketball in high school, but was never considered a jock.  These guys were different, they didn't only play sports, but were popular. Sometimes they were recruited, other times, they just drawn to different interests.

Although a jock, this Tony had artsy parents.  A mother who painted, a father who played in the city's symphony.  This provided him a varied array of interests, and his status as a jock, allowed him to weave in an out of things like the musical.  This made it 'slightly' cooler for the rest of us who were mocked for dancing around the stage with our prop knifes.

I'll never forget the day that baby blue became one of my favorite colors of briefs.  We were in the gym rehearsing, when two of the mothers who were doing the costumes showed.  Although most of us were wearing jeans and white t-shirts of our own, the director wanted to see us all in our costumes.  Most of us headed into the locker room to change, but not the cutie playing Tony. He stripped down right there in front of the director, the mothers, and those of us who stayed back to watch, 

He pulled off his shirt, then his sneakers, then his pants. then bent down and pulled his costume out of his book bag.  I'll never forget those 45 or so seconds, with him standing and bending in his tight baby blue briefs.  What followed was a chorus of blushes.  Not just from me, but also a couple of other cast members, as well as those two moms. We all felt a flush of red come over our faces and a tingle down our bodies.   I don't think he noticed, but I also don't think he really cared.  Those baby blues, are embedded vividly in my consciousness.

Last November, I began a series featuring a collection of posterior photos from photographer Andrew Bowman. (HERE:)  I think most FH viewers are keenly aware of my passion for visuals of male buns.  It's really the only round  part of the male form, and when skillfully shot, creates the most stunning lines and curves.

Andrew is one of my favorite chroniclers of the curve, and when he sent on his selection of hump day shots for me to choose from, I was overwhelmed with not just the amount, the many unique ways, themes and fashion pieces he utilized in the spotlighting of the stern.

Today, the theme is clearly the tank top.   I use the words tank top with intent.  As someone who works in social services, I can't bring myself to use the term wife beater.  I know it's become part of the culture, and I know it goes back decades to cinematic depictions.  Marlon Brando looked incredibly hot wearing one as  Stanley Kowalski, but many forget that Kowalski was a rapist and violent abuser. 

I also don't really like undershirt or singlet.  They seem a little old fashion, and were words my parents used to say.  My father wore his 'singlet' to work out, and mom screamed at us to ensure we had on our undershirt during the winter months.  I like tank top, it's unisex, and given it's increased popularity in fashion, it's now a top, no longer something lying under another piece of clothing.

The tank top theme continues Andrew's love of capturing the Donald Duck theme.  Just like the famous dapper waterfowl, , Andrew enjoys shooting many of his models dressed on top, but completely naked below the waste.

I know why I love visuals spotlighting the male butt, I'm still often amazed so many photographers don't seem to appreciate it's visual assets and photographic potential.  I was curious what about the male bottom Andrew looks for when shooting the male derrière...
