Halloween Countdown: Hau'oli Ka La Ho'ola'a!

They say that Hawaii only has two seasons, dry and wet, but if you look closely, there are subtle signs of Autumn on the Island. Slightly cooler nights and darkness coming just a tiny bit earlier than usual. Artist Ron Reyes always creates vibrant, colorful images and often with a nod to the Aloha State. The California based photographer also has a large selection of Christmas and holiday images that I love. You can check out more at Ron's site HERE:

'Halloween didn't originally exist in the Hawaiian culture -- since Halloween is more of a Euro/Paganistic thing ... but since Hawai'i is now part of the U.S., the Hawaiians have obviously adopted the Holiday of "Pumpkins,Ghosts & Goblins" hehe ~ but there isn't really a separate "Hawaiian Halloween" ... "Hawaiian" costumes available out there are usually the cheesy plastic grass-skirts with a cheap coconut bra, fake leaf wreaths for the hands arms and feet and maybe a typical Hawaiian shirt ...
'Authentic' Hawaiian costumes are rarely available since most of the traditional wear is made by hand with Live plant material -- and mostly the natives were naked, (hello, it's a tropical island) so if you live in the Northwest, wearing barely anything may not be practical - haha ...'
