After putting together my skin salute to Saturday Night Live on the weekend, I watched most of Sunday's 50th anniversary special. I watched the first half on television, and the highlights from the second hal on the SNL Twitter page the next day. Although I think I enjoyed the 40th anniversary special better, there was much about the telecast I enjoyed, especially seeing characters I used to love watching every week.
It was just as enjoyable watching the response on-line. Many loved it and posted highlights. One of mine was the far too short bit with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the blind dog. I wasn't initially aware it stemmed from her guest appearance on Arrested Development, but I loved the bit just the same. Of course there were a lot of haters, repeating the same tired comments about the show not being good anymore.
I think Saturday Night Live isn't as good, as we remember loving it when we were in our late teens, 20's and 30's. Many of us watched it high or under the influence, which of course made everything funnier. That being said, although the show certainly has had dips in quality, overall, it still usually makes me laugh. The Beavis and Butthead sketch with Ryan Gossling this past season had me laughing for days.
Of course some of loudest complaints, (as always) came from the MAGA crowd, upset at Tom Hanks and his portrayal of a supporter of the orange idiot. What is surprises me is that they're shocked most think they're racist. The orange idiot is a racist, this to me is indisputable and backed up by facts. If you support and voted for a racist, you either have to be a racist yourself, support a racist as POTUS, or be a complete idiot. I don't think many members of MAGA check out FH, and I'm not here to tell them which category you fit into. But....if you voted for him, you are, like it or not, in one of the three.
One of the highlights of the anniversary show was for me, Molly Shannon. I'm a huge Molly fan, and will watch her in anything. I wish The Other Two was still on the air. My favorite moment was watching her bump and grind against Bad Bunny as Santiago. I love Bad Bunny and I don't blame Molly for going for it in the sketch.
Although all three 'brothers' were hot, Bad Bunny is sex on a stick, and who, being that close, wouldn't want a little taste. Go Molly!
