Shy and inexperienced, Steven falls in love with his classmate Dana.
Usually, whenever I feature a movie clip, I try to watch the film beforehand. In the case of the German teen comedy Besser Als Schule, (Better Than School) I struggled to find a copy to stream or buy. I did find a DVD copy on Amazon, but no longer have a CD/DVD drive on my laptop, which would meaning hauling the old DVD player from storage. I may still, but for now, I'm fine with just enjoying the clip.
Besser Als Schule premiered in theaters on April 29, 2004, and aired on Bavarian Television in 2005. The film received funding from, among others, the Central German Media Fund (MDM) , the Film Foundation NRW, and the German Federal Film Board.
It still impresses me that so many governments support the arts financially, including adult, and LBGTQ themed films. I remember last year when the net lit up after finding out that Heated Rivalry was partially funded by the Government of Canada.
The film is about Steven, who has fallen in love with Dana. She, however, only has eyes for pop star Marc, whom his manager sends back to school because he thinks it's a good PR stunt. This shower scene features Marc (Thorsten Feller) and Jack (Philip Hagmann). The 'soapy' story is intentional, with many of the main cast members coming from the world of German soap operas. From the clip, I'm guessing that Marc has another set of eyes on him, those belonging to Jack...
