Riverdale Re-Dux

Some FH readers might already know that the post below is not new. I have loved Archie and the gang since I was a kid and posted this piece about the Hunks of Riverdale after first hearing about the shows casting last spring. But...after having now watched the pilot, I thought it needed a repeat airing. I will just say that I LOVED Riverdale. The show is dark and sexy in a Twin Peaks sort of way, while at the same time a whole lot of fun. Each character from the comic book is both true to form while at the same time all having a modern twist. (Ms. Grundy anyone...) Kevin Keller is part of the gang, and if you haven't seen the episode yet, wait for his brief, but well worth it, almost scene with Moose.

Long time FH readers know I love me some Archie Andrews and the gang. I have written several times about growing up reading the comics and my affection for the Riverdale High ginger. Last month, The CW wrapped up filming the pilot for Riverdale, the networks update featuring Archie and the gang.

The update certainly seems to be adding the sexy, with a hot group of actors playing Archie, Reggie, Kevin, Moose and even a huge hit of hunky in their version of Jughead. If you haven't already, let me introduce you to the new crop of students from Rivdale High.

If the dark haired K.J. Apa,  (above) doesn't scream Archie Andrews, how about K.J after a little Clairol......

I would never have thought of former Disney star Cole Sprouse to play Jughead Jones, but let's hope the show at least takes advantage of their casting by recreating a few of those beach scenes from the comics.

I love the casting of Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle.  Not only is Ross sexy as hell, he has the attitude to pull off Riverdale's rich snob.

Kevin Keller marks' actor Casey Cott's first professional acting gig on screen.

Kody Kearsley may need a bit of blonde Clairol to pull off playing Moose Mason, but he certainly seems to have the legs and body for the part.

Riverdale's Reggie's

Actor Ross Butler(above) looks incredible in this new pic from his upcoming appearance in Men's Health. Butler's star is on the rise, especially after juggling roles last season in both Riverdale, and 13 Reasons Why.

Most of you know by now that Ross has been replaced on Riverdale by the delicious Charles Melton (on left of Camila Mendes above). If you follow Riverdale's Archie, KJ Apa (who looks like he's going to have a bad morning after...) on Instagram, you have seen KJ too seems a wee bit obsessed (minus the wee) with the show's Reggie replacement. Who can blame him.

Archie's Hell Week

Although KJ Apa, and his incredible abs, are certainly worthy of being immortalized in a comic, my love of Archie Andrews began many years before Riverdale premiered. Since beginning FH, I have covered Archie and gang from every angle. The comics, the TV Show, the TV Movie, the Feature Film, even parody's from other shows like Glee.

It is appropriate then, that the KJ and the gang are coming full circle with a new Riverdale themed comic featuring the Archie world illustrated to match their television counterparts. Not all fans of the comic are thrilled about the altered states of their beloved characters, but the Riverdale inspired comics are not meant to take over the main franchise, but instead are mostly promotion for the show with limited releases that don't impact the main Archie comic series releases.

I took notice of the Riverdale version after seeing some shots from last Spring's first edition which featured Archie having to endure Hell Week in order to maintain his status on the football team. Although the TV show shows plenty of Archie, aka KJ skin, the comic had Archie streaking across the football field in order to make through his orientation.

Since a comic inspired the TV Show, and the show is now inspiring a comic, we can only hope the CW might take a little inspiration from the new comic... We can only dream.

KJ Apa: Riverdale High

Something is happening all right, and it occurs every time I see actor KJ Apa. It took me a few scenes to get the appeal of Riverdale's new Archie Andrews. There seemed to be a bit of 'playing' in the pilot with how 'orange' to make his hair, and what tone best fit the character. But.. by the time he was sweaty, walking down the street giving us a glimpse of those abs, we were all hooked.

The producers clearly also see KJ's appeal, and how wonderfully he glistens when sweaty. The show's second episode also featured a sweaty Archie, tossing and turning in his grey boxer briefs in bed, and running through the streets of Riverdale. As long as Archie continues to sweat, I'll be there. It helps that KJ is a great actor, and thus far the shows dark 'Twin Peaks' style of storytelling is incredibly engrossing.
