Blast From The Past for September 28th Rob Stone

Who remembers Rob Stone? Rob did not have the success of some of the other actors of the 80's but he certainly was memorable to me. Rob began on tv in the early 80's with guest shots on 'The Facts of Life', 'The Jefferson's', 'Silver Spoons' and other tv shows of the time. Rob got a regular gig on Mr. Belvedere which aired for 5 years beginning in 1985. I was only about 10 when Mr. Belvedere hit the air, so I went through some pretty important years watching some TGIF on ABC. I remember thinking Rob Stone was one of the hottest guys on tv at the time, always wearing tight jeans and looking so hot. Cannot say I was a huge fan of the show, but I did watch regularly to see Rob. Rob seemed to vanish from acting after Belvedere, with only a couple of tv appearances after that. Rob moved to directing and producing and worked for the history channel for a bit



Now 47, Rob came to Hollywood after growing up in Texas. After doing some theater as a young teen in Dallas. In California, he attended The University of Southern California's BFA Drama conservatory where he was discovered by an agent who later became Rob's agent who helped him get his first tv appearances. One of the most interesting rumors about Stone was that he was in fact Marilyn Manson. Many sources claimed the two were one in the same. Of course this is not the case, but the rumor stuck for quite a few years. Not sure what Rob is doing these days, if anyone knows, please drop me a line. Regardless I thank him for some great memories from the late 80's.

Rob Stone in The Fatal Seduction

After featuring actor Rob Stone in my Blast From The Past piece on Wednesday, I received an e-mail from a reader about Rob's 1993 turn on Matlock. Not many actors can claim their sexiest role, the role they showed the most skin... was on an episode of Matlock, but Mr. Stone certainly can. The two part episode, The Fatal Seduction, cast Rob as a lifeguard, meaning in most of the first half of the story, he was shirtless on the beach.

Although when I visit my parents, Matlock seems to be on a loop on their television, I haven't actually ever seen an episode. That mean mean I didn't go a googling to find a copy of the episode after receiving the e-mail. Sadly, this is Rob's last official credit on IMDB before moving behind the the scenes with his directing and documentary company.

Stoned Again!

One of my favorite parts of doing FH is Blast From The Past. I always wanted the site to focus on more than just the man of the moment. There are so many talented actors, models and singers who were small, but significant part of my growing up and I love taking a look back them. But... with FH about to enter it's 10th year, I have covered pretty much all of them. So, I decided to look back at some of my early Blast posts to see if there was anyone I wanted to check back in with again.

Although he played a teenager on Mr. Belevdere, actor Rob Stone was in his early twenties when the show was in production. I was on the brink of my teenage years, and took instant notice of Rob. I didn't watch the show much, but when I did it was to check in on Rob and the tightness of the jeans he often wore. Rob had a distinct look, such a great face and an incredibly hot body. I first featured Rob back in 2008, and when looking back at the post was surprised I couldn't find a recent pic.

Well, eight years later, it was easy to find a few recent shots of Rob, and as you can see from the shot below, Rob has not lost his ability to turn heads! Rob left acting not long after Belevdere went off the air, but didn't leave show business completely. Rob went on to start his own production company focusing on documentaries, many of which have been produced, and directed by the former actor.

I am sure there are man guys that I haven't remembered, some come flooding back after seeing an image, an old TV show, or hearing a news story. In the meantime, I enjoyed looking back and searching for shots of Rob so I may return to some of my favorites in FH's 10th year.

Brian Robbins in Battle of the Network Stars (1988)

Brian Robbins appeared on the last official (before the lame reboot last year) of ABC's Battle of the Network Stars in 1988. The celebrities were a mix of the old guard regulars (Greg Evigan, Charlene Tilton, John Davidson) with actors new to the late 80's celebrity scene. (Robbins, Dawn Lewis, Rob Stone) 

Although some of the older celebrities like Jack Scalia and Lorenzo Lamas (who had previously appeared on the show) still wore speedos, Robbins went for the longer, Jammer style swim wear.  He still looked mighty fine.

I was only a baby when the first Battle of the Network Stars premiered on ABC back in 1976. The Howard Cosell hosted all but one of the original celebrity sports and games TV specials. The only original Battle that I actually watched when it aired was the final edition in 1988. I'd seen commercials and ads for the previous specials, but until the 1988 edition, I'd been too young to really watch and appreciate them.

1984

I do however remember this edition, which had it's share of television hunks from the time. Some of the actors competing included; Brian Robbins, Rob Stone, Jack Scalia and Blair Underwood. I especially remember crushing over actor Brian Wimmer, who looked especially hot battling it out. Years later, I remember catching a few old episodes when ESPN and the cable network Trio aired a marathon during the 90's. Most of my viewing however, occurred thanks to Youtube.

Robert Conrad (1976/1977/1978/1979)

Some of the celebrities in that first Battle, I'd never heard of before, others, like the hunky Robert Conrad, I first got to know after seeing their speedo pics on-line. Over the years, whenever I'm a profiling an actor, or doing a Blast from the Past piece, the first thing I do is check to see if they did a Battle.  If they did, the hunt for speedo pics is on!

Some actors, like Scott Baio and Jack Scalia, seemed to welcome strutting around for the camera in their speedos, others, seemed to shy away from getting their pictures taken while wearing their tight, wet swimwear.  Regardless you can see them on Youtube, although the quality of most isn't that great, given most came from decades old VHS tapes.

Although the quality varies, it is fun to look back, especially at the early editions and check out the stars from the 70's and 80's who participated. This salute to the classic show actually began after seeing the 2017 summer remake.

Although the show cast a great variety and current and former hotties and television celebrities, the format lacked the spark and magic of the original. The show was overly edited, and the celebrities separated into teams that didn't provide the fun interaction we saw from the original series. It was fun seeing celebrities from different shows interacting with each other.  It also didn't have one of the main draws, TV hunks in speedos!!!

Blast From The Past!!!

One of my favorite features to put together on FH is Blast From The Past. BFTP was an attempt to shine a light on actors, models and celebrities who made an impact on me while I was growing up. Many of the men featured came from reader suggestions and I spent a lot of time researching men who were famous before my time. Many of the men featured are still busy working, some were only famous during a certain era, some were mere flashes in the pan. Some sadly have passed away. I am happy with all of the famous faces from the past that have been featured and wanted to revisit that part of the blog.
