'I enjoy capturing the personality of my subject. I am also interested in more abstract ideas. I love working with diverse people of all levels of experience, people who are happy to experiment and try new ideas and locations. Essentially I want to create beautiful images.'
What attracts me to a certain image, a certain artist depends. It depends on how I am feeling that day, my mood, the weather, even the time of year. Some days I have no desire to see another images of a male model in front of a colored studio background, on another day I might be sick of seeing models climbing out of swimming pools.
It is one of the reasons images I overlook on a Monday, might be my favorite image ever the following Friday. The one constant though, the one thing that always has me stop is when I see an images with something, even a small thing, that I haven't seen before. This is what had me pause the first time I saw a visual from Jon from -
Jpics.
That first image was the second shot of Mike below. The pose, the framing and angle. The buildings that surround the London rooftop. Mike's only item of clothing, the boots that seem to have his attention. Was the image planned, or an out take from the shoot?
Mike
Jon's use of the word abstract in the description of his work sort of give us the answer. When you view Jon's work, the images don't appear to be a finished thought or story, but more the journey of getting there. What is seen a long the way. In all of Jon's images, I see something that draws me in. A good example is the image at the top of this piece. A relatively standard shot of an underwear clad model leaning on a brick wall. I initially deleted it from the set I was going to use, into the recycle bin it went. Then for a reason I didn't initially recognize, I went back, twice to retrieve it for the post. The more time I spent with the image, I realized it was the structure and incredible blue in the background that had been drawing me back.
Each of the images I have included here have something that drew me in. The pose or body angle, a speck of color or the models eyes or look. In the image above, it was the window, the broken window. Jon describes himself as
an amateur with a lot of ideas and it is those ideas's, whether completed, or in process that create such interesting and unique vantage points.
