Born In Madrid, 30 year old Álex Villazán has juggled two passions since he was a kid. Acting was one, the other was martial arts. When he was 19, Álex came in third in the World Championship of Jiu Jitsu. Álex used both passions in his role as Alan Strang in Equus.
Álex began his acting career under the guidance of director and set designer Maria Jose Pazos. then joined the Municipal School of Drama which led to his first professional roles on television. The young actor has been working in TV, on film and on stage steadily since including regular roles on the television series Caronte, Skam España and Alma. (The Girl In The Mirror)
Álex won critical praise for his turn in Equus and was nominated for a Actors Union Award for best lead theatre actor. The Actors Union Awards reward excellence in performances in Spanish film, television and theater.
Álex also wanted to challenge himself, and push some boundaries by appearing fully nude in the production. He was keenly aware that previous productions have censored the nudity, and didn't want to be one of those actors who did fully commit to the role of Alan.
'The censorship with the nudity with previous productions has made this work more special and especially the subsequent rebellion that it represented.'
